This isn't a recipe just an idea I had to share. I can't believe how good it was!
I've never had grilled pineapple. Can you believe it? I just never really had the desire to grill it before. When you love something raw sometimes it doesn't occur to you to cook it. Why mess with a good thing?
Well, I was wrong.
Grilled pineapple is fantabulous! It's warm, sweet and meaty. Sandwich a burger patty in-between and you've got a whole twist on dinner. Sure, sometimes I want to pick up a burger on a bun but other times I want to have a little fun. This was fun.
Ingredients
- 4 oz lean beef
- 2 slices of pineapple about ½ in thick
Instructions
Grill the patty according to your taste. I'm a medium-rare girl myself. Halfway though cooking add the pineapple to the grill. Grill about 3-4 minutes a side.
Remove everything from the grill and sandwich the patty between the 2 slices of pineapple.
Eat with a fork.
With the pineapple there was no need for ketchup! I served the burgers alongside baked beans and grilled Brussels sprouts.
Of course the boys had regular buns. The husband would NEVER go for something like this. Ever.
Are you a grilled pineapple fan? How do you eat them?

Grilled or broiled pineapple with cinnamon on it and then served over top of plain Greek yogurt (with a drizzle of something sweet...I use no sugar added ED Smith syrup) is AMAZING! Love pineapple 🙂

What a great idea.
I wonder what other sandwiches we can make with Pineapple Buns?

Love that idea! I would never have thought of it...but it sounds fantastic, and I'm going to do it next time we bbq!!

Jaime - I just put them in a grill pan and spray with a little non-stick and salt. I have a picture of them in this post... http://ronisweigh.com/2012/04/screw-a-sensational-sunday.html

My FAVE way to eat grilled pineapple is drizzled with a bit of Nutella, but that isn't the healthiest treat 😛 Still, healthier than chocolate chip cookies or cake!
Ground beef seems so expensive these days; I'll bet this would taste really good with ground turkey or even pork!

You should also try it over chicken. As well as some fresh pico or a fruited salsa - DELISH and loww WW+

YUMMY.
I have never tried brussel sprouts. How did you fix those on the grill??
Nikki
The beans are cooked in the can in the factory, it is perfectly fine to heat them up in the can. 🙂 My DH used to work in a cannery, actually used to make a lot of different things commercially. Right now he oversees the Quality Control for a plant that makes mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese, as well as other items, both for home use and for restaurants.
Barbara
great idea. I love grilled pineapple . I will try this instead of bun
Patricia
This is a fantastic idea... just in time for grilling season! the can of beans is awesome- just like camping. i never think to do that at home but it makes sense.
Tina
Oooo that looks good. I want to try that but with spiral ham layered over a pineapple. (I love Hawaiian pizza so anything meat and pineapple is delicious).

oooooh... that looks GOOD! Makes me think of my favorite Red Robin burger. I'll have to try that sometime...

I'm sure someone will tell me I'm killing myself but I do it with all cans that don't have that white lining.

It did soften enough. I didn't even notice it!

How did you deal with the center part of the pineapple?? At least when raw, the center part is too rough to eat. Maybe cooking it makes it tender? (Loved the idea, BTW)
Carolynne
Haha, my first thought was what your husband thought of it!! I was suprised, but then I read that bottom line of your post. 🙂 Personally, I think it looks delicious. Can't go wrong with grilled pineapple!

Whoa, nelly! That looks amazing! I don't like burgers much at all, but this might change my mind.

omg omg omg my husband just introduced me to the glory that is grilled pineapple! I was like...that sounds yummy and he did it. Soooo good!
Did you cook those beans in their can?? Is it safe to do that with the metal? I just know you can't leave metal out in the fridge, but I didn't know if it would release bht or whatever the hell that gas that's in plastic...
