Cabbage, Feta and Pear Salad

Published: Apr 12, 2013 · Modified: Oct 17, 2020 by greenlitebitescom · This post may contain affiliate links · 9 Comments

I've made this salad twice since creating and photographing it. I wanted to share it so badly I'm so mad it's taken me this long to get it up on the site! It's so tasty in that I-cant-believe-these-few-ingredients-go-so-good-together type of way.

I bought a head of purple cabbage, not knowing what I'd do with it. I was thinking a slaw but then I noticed the ripe pears in my fruit basket and figured...

Why not?

Cabbage, Feta and Pear Sala

The feta just seemed to make sense. Its saltiness goes perfect with the sweetness of the pear and crunch of the cabbage. I added a little mustard and vinegar to balance it and the honey seemed to bring it all together.

Here's what I did.

It's SO stinkin' easy!

  • ¼ of a large purple head of cabbage shredded (about 150g)
  • 1 ripe pear (soft and sweet)
  • 1oz (28g) crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 tsp (5g) grainy mustard
  • ½ tbsp (10g) honey
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • Pinch of kosher salt

Put all ingredients in a bowl.

Toss with a pair of tongs

Make to sure break some of the pears and really coat everything with the cheese and honey.

Enjoy!

This would not be a combo I would have tried. But I love all three ingredients. I currently take Greens that give me 8+servings of fruits and veggies, plus probiotics and other awesome all-natural ingredients. I've lost almost 30 lbs. on the products I am taking. But this recipe would only serve to give me more of what I need, as well as taste good I'm sure!!!! I love that!

We saw an earlier comment about the browning of the pears- if you add a little squeeze of lemon juice, that'll prevent oxidation from happening and the salad will keep for a few days!

Made this yesterday and the textures of the salad and feta cheese and the sweetness of the pear are delicious. I highly recommend people try this out. Many thanks for sharing.

Sounds great. I would never count this as 7. The recipe builder is just not good for some things. This is one of them. If I ate a 1/4 of a cabbage tossed with vinegar and mustard, then a pear, then some feta, the total would be three points for the feta only. That's what I'm going with when I make it!!!

That recipe does sound good but I agree with you--what is up with the points--oh well it is still super healthy and worth a try. Glad I am going to the store today.

Hmm I never thought about it. The apple cider and honey may help prevent browning but I haven't tried it yet. I'll update when I do!

That looks delicious! Is it something that you can make in advance/keep leftover, or will the pears brown?
