I whipped one of these up the other day with a few ounces of leftover turkey meat and I immediately fell in love. The honey mixed in the burger cooked on the outdoor grill created this fantastic burnt sweetness. The mustard adds a bit of tang and the oatmeal keeps it super moist.

I made another batch yesterday, this time using more meat and making more then one portion. I cooked the whole batch on the grill and froze the leftovers for my lunches like I do with the Southwestern Turkey Burgers.

The husband and the toddler both refused to even try a bite. Again.. cool with me! I want the lunches! :) Grilled Honey Mustard Turkey Oat Burgers

  • 12oz lean ground turkey
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 cup (80g) old Fashioned Oats
  • 3 tbsp (63g) honey
  • 3 tbsp country style mustard (the kind with the whole seeds)
  • 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce

Combine all ingredients and form into 5 patties about 4 ounces each. The mixture will be moist.

Cook on a preheated grill on medium-high for about 5 minutes a side. Serve on your fav whole wheat bun with all the fixin’s. :) I used a sandwich thin, baby spinach, tomatoes, ketchup, black pepper and sweet pickles.

Sounds fabulous even though I’m raw meat wary so I’ll have to drum up my courage and make these though!

Is that 1 cup of oats in there? It doesn’t say.

  2. roni

Yup! That would be oats! :)

Not sure what you mean by the raw meat? You can always cook a little longer if you are weary, they just may be a bit dryer. Stick a thermometer in or cut one in half. That’s what I do! :)

That recipe sounds great Roni, I hope to try it sometime soon I am always up for trying new recipes especially if you recommend them, etc!

The oats are my replacement for breadcrumbs. They help keep the meat moist. Not sure if it helps lower the points, if you don’t use it you will get less burgers but probably at the same points value. Just do the calculations.

I always use oats with ground turkey.. it’s just how I like it for everything from meatballs to loaf.

These look great!! We only eat ground turkey and I have been experimenting to find other “burgers” to make. Also, I FINALLY found the sandwich thins at SAM’s. LOVE them!! They are so soft and a perfect portion without the guilt.

BTW- way to go on the 1/2 marathon, you’re my running hero!!

Yum! Ground turkey breast is the only ground meat that I can eat without grossing out. I wish we had the sandwich thins around here! Those are way cool.

These look great! I’m wondering if you can even add some diced onion and red bell pepper and make a nice meatloaf out of this recipe?

As always, thanks for the ideas and the inspirations! You ROCK!

The sandwich thins are my FAVORITE!!! You can make a delicious and thick sandwich without the guilt of thick bread, so tasty :)

Also another couple reasons to add to what roni already said about why the oatmeal…..it bines it all togheter so it sticks together while cooking. and also it adds fiber to a otherwise fiberless patty =D and also I would like it cause of the wonderful texture it adds =D

I will be trying these! I loved your southwestern patties! I think I would also add peppers to these patties too as I pretty much put them in everything! lol

I just tried these tonight. I loved them and will definitely make them again and again!!
That dear man of mine on the other hand started complaining as soon as he heard me say ground turkey breast… But, I am pretty lucky, because although he may complain about things – he will try almost everything I make. From his first bite he didn’t love them and he said “I have definitely had worse.” But the part that totally cracked me up the most was when he was complaining about the sweet flavor in the meat as he was stacking his SECOND BURGER!!! Yes, you read that right, he didn’t love them but he had TWO!!! LOL Don’t you just love those men out there for keeping us laughing…

I wanted to give you a huge CONGRATS on all your resent victories!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing this recipe – and everything else you share with us!!

Michelle – On the GFG I’d go about 7-8 minutes. Whatever the “well” done time is for a beef burger. You don’t want these rare.

These burgers were soooo good. My boyfriend will eat just about anything….even veggies crumbles (lucky me!), and he comment on these burgers were..”its the perfect combination of honey and mustard, and the oats make it so filling”….haha I am sure when I get home from work today the last of them will be gone.

I also saw that they now make a whole wheat white sandwich thin, I didnt bother looking at the ingredents because we eat the other varieties, but its something to keep in mind for those of you that CANT get your kids/husbands to eat whole wheat bread!

    link to asianfoodgrocer.com

Found a different brand of this stuff at my asian grocery store. Think you may just fall in love with it if you get some. Plus if it makes the tofu burger taste really meaty you can probably get your toddler to eat it too

OMG, Roni, you knocked this outta the park! We both LOVED them, can’t wait to have the leftovers, I did make them into 4 patties, so I guess 5 PTS each?

    YUM!

  15. Courtney

Made these tonight and they are INCREDIBLE! If you are reading these comments and contemplating these burgers, MAKE THEM. I used dijon mustard and they were awesome. My husband said they were like candy. Looking forward to lunch tomorrow….. Thanks Roni!

These look great! I’m always up for a new turkey burger recipe.

I was wondering — how do you figure out the calories, fat, fiber, etc when you make a meal?

  17. Karen

YUM! I didn’t include the honey because my kids had plenty of sugar today, but they still came out great! I LOVE the idea of adding oatmeal instead of bread crumbs. Thanks!
