I'm not kidding. I could not believe how good this was. A warm bowl of heaven.
The combination of banana and chocolate chips is a favorite of mine. Add in just a touch of peanut butter and it's the perfect trifecta.
Not only did it taste amazing, it filled me up. It may not be the lightest breakfast but it's a fun variation chock full of good stuff.
I will definitely be making this again!
Oh! and did I mention it's super easy to make? In 5 minutes I was eating the tastiest breakfast ever.
Here's how I did it...
Ingredients
- ½ cup Old Fashioned Oats (40g)
- 6oz of water
- Pinch of Salt
- 1 tablespoon Natural Peanut Butter (14g)
- ½ ripe Banana Mashed
- ½ tablespoon Mini-Chocolate Chips
Instructions
Put the water, oats, salt and peanut butter in a small pot.
Cook over medium high heat, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes until all the water is absorbed.
While the oats are cooking, mash your banana.
I shared the other half with this Little Bean.
Once the water is all absorbed, and the oats are nice and gooey, add them to the mashed banana and mix everything together.
As if that wasn't tasty enough, top with the chocolate chips!
Seriously delicious!
For those counting it's a little steep in the point department but I'm not kidding on the fullness factor aspet. This stuck with me all morning. It's a great treat breakfast.

Frozen raspberries in oatmeal ROCKS! I haven't done it in awhile but have you seen this idea.. https://greenlitebites.com/2011/05/22/dark-chocolate-raspberry-oatmeal/
I never thought of mixing them with PB though. Great idea!!

So lately we have been doing steel cut oatmeal for breakfast every morning. I've been looking for ways to switch it up a bit and decided to try this one. It was delicious.
The next morning I decided to do a Peanut Butter and jelly version. Only instead of jelly I threw in 1/4 c of frozen raspberries, it worked great to cool the oatmeal down quick so I could eat it faster. You need to try this sometime, it was so wonderful. Nice and sweet with natural sugars instead of the ones in jelly. I also throw in a spoon of chia seeds for an extra boost. 🙂

This was indeed a warm bowl of heaven! I can't keep choco chips around so just used cocoa powder and it was still delicious and so fast!

I add cottage cheese after it is cooked to my oatmeal as it is full of protein and does not change the flavor of the oatmeal. then add a spoonful of pnut butter and 1 spoonful of sugar free strawberry jelly. aded by banana slices on top and you have a banana split bowl of oatmeal. the added protein really keeps you full all morning.

Made it this morning. The little dude ate all the chocolate chips off the top, THEN ate his oatmeal. I thought it was delicious!
I think next time I'll try making it with steel cut oats. I prefer the texture over regular oats.

Looks good! I've pinned it so I remember to make it for breakfast tomorrow 🙂

Oooo! ( just hold the peanut butter.) I see a night time treat here! (Oatmeal for milk production, and better than cookies!)
I seem to have been 'blessed' with the type of body that halts milk at the mere mention of diet, Points, and less bread. Maybe a bowl ( or half-bowl) of this, before bed will help! (Excuse the TMI!)
Donna
I love oatmeal mixed with 2T pb2 and 1 swiss miss with 1 1/2 cup of water. For 6 pp
Brianne
I love a little cocoa powder and agave nectar in my oatmeal. I also use a little milk for part of the liquid.

MELTY chocolate chips are a whole separate level of amazing.

I add fresh banana to my oatmeal almost every day. It seems to add a sweetness that works so you dont have to add sugar or a substitute. I also add CRUNCHY PB sometimes, depending on what I am doing to work off the extra fat and calories...but chocolate chips?? YUMMMM. I will have to try that one!
Shannon
OMG ~ you just made me the BEST momma EVER!!!! The girls couldn't believe I gave them chocolate chips at breakfast but what they didn't realize is that they didn't gripe ONE time about eating a bowl of oatmeal. Whoo-hoooo!!!!!!!!!!!
nicole
I make this exact same flavor concoction but cut the points down to 6 pts+.
I use steel cup oats (4pts+) and stir 2 Tbsp of PB2 (1 pt+)into the oatmeal after it's cooked, then sprinkle 2 tsp of mini chocolate chips (1 pt+) and banana slices (0 pts+) on top.
It's awesome, I eat it at least once or twice a week.

My stomach has really revolted on the oatmeal front over the past 8 months or so but I'm thinking this just made it perk up and rethink things!

I've been doing the peanut butter/banana/chocolate oatmeal combo for some time, but I use unsweetened cocoa powder instead of chocolate chips. And I always make my oatmeal with milk, for the protein and the calcium.

Hey Roni..This post made me smile.. This is a regular breakfast for me.. Sometimes there are no bananas in the house.. so just peanut butter and chocolate chips... Makes me think I'm having Reese's oatmeal...YUMMY.. especially on a cold morning.. Thanks for sharing..
Jess
OMG this looks so freakin' good!! I never think to mash banana to put it into my oatmeal, I always slice it. But the mashed variety would work really well for riper bananas (I usually can't eat them when they get TOO ripe, but mashed might not be bad). I am SO TRYING THIS!
christina
I also found if I use cocoa powder and make it the night before but alittle on the softer side then its PERFECT come morning - just nuke it and easy fast super yummy breakfast. Sitting overnight makes the cocoa powder do its thing a bit more 🙂 I make two servings at a time and take one to work for an early dinner.

For the last 4 days I have made my oatmeal with a smashed banana (I use the microwave, so cook the banana with the oatmeal- makes it sweeter) and a big ol' spoonful of cocoa, dash of brown sugar. Top with a touch of milk and it tastes like a chocolate covered banana! Of course, I've been told it looks like dirt, but I don't care- it's yummy!
roni
christina - Great idea! I can't imagine it getting any creamier thought. It's such a good combo. Love the egg white idea! Was thinking a little protein power too!
roni
Yea, that PB packs on the fat. 🙁 You could skip it, would still be good!
Amy
How funny that you posted this today. I was thinking of making this exact thing tomorrow morning. Can't wait to have my oatmeal tomorrow. :o)
christina
you should try putting the mashed banana in when you are just starting to boil your water - it breaks down the flavor and makes it alittle richer. I also sometimes use unsweetenned vanilla almond milk instead of water and no clue why this helps but if you take it off the heat for 30 sec and then mix in an egg white then return to heat and stir it makes it fluffier and seems like alot more. The trick is adding the egg white when it isnt super super hot and it wont get strandy.

Sounds delicious!! Unfortunately I am on a medical low fat diet indefinitely 🙁
