With a ripe pineapple aging on the counter and 2 kids who refuse to eat it, I had to come up with something fast. I'm always shocked how yummy a smoothie can be with minimal ingredients. There's no need for protein powder or mixes. Just put some yummy stuff in your blender and let them do their thing.
The combo of a ripe banana with super sweet fresh pineapple just screams refreshing. Adding in the spinach is just a bonus! This combo is a total winner.
Now all I have to do is buy opaque straw cups so the kids don't get turned off by the color!
Here's what I did…
Ingredients
- ½ ripe banana
- 100g ripe pineapple
- 2 cups (85g) fresh baby spinach
- ½ cup water
- ~10 ice cubes
Instructions
Put all ingredients except the once cubes in the blender.
Blend until smooth.
Add the ice cubes and blend again.
Enjoy!

When out bananas are starting to get a little on the dark side we end up throwing them in the freezer. Then when I want to make a smoothie I pull one out and whack it in the microwave for 3040 seconds just to get the peel off. They certainly peel a lot easier when they are over ripe. You tend to get a fuller banana flavor as well.

This smoothie looks so refreshing and delicious! It's a great combination. I also love making healthy smoothie like combination of Avocado and Strawberry. Anyway, I will try this recipe. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Looks great. One question... What do you do with the other half of the banana, outside of eating it?
roni
I cut it with the skin on and just eat it later or give it to the kids. 🙂

Just whipped this up as a mid-morning snack - used an over-ripe banana and some canned crushed pineapple. This is awesome!

120 calories and looks delish - win win. Can you use normal spinach as I don't have any baby spinach to hand?
roni
As long as it's raw it will totally work. I use baby and "Regular" interchangeable. It honestly comes down to whichever is on sale at the time. 🙂

I make this smoothie often. Add in some unsweetened coconut milk and you have a Pina Colada smoothie!
