What Came Home?

Another completely empty lunch box! I'm not AS suspicious as I know he likes everything I gave him. Plus, is he crafty enough to only throw out things randomly? Most days there's a remnant or 2 of something leftover.
Still... it makes me wonder.

I had to let you know that I borrowed the idea for raw turnips for my own lunch. I just peeled mine and sliced. I had never had them and actually found them to be not bad at all. I plan to buy some for next weeks lunch. I also bought a can of butter beans and added them to my lunch. I've always liked lima beans but was unsure about eating them cold, but it is another hit. Thanks for sharing ideas for lunch boxes.

Only the rounded edge containers have lids and we rarely use them. Only if I send something with liquid.

I'm debating about buying the same lunch box for daughter. Do you actually put the lids on each compartment? I'm just picturing them getting thrown away! Does everything stay in the right little container without the lid?

It has a radish texture but it's not peppery. Just crunchy goodness! Oh and better sliced thin. That's how he likes it.
Paula
I have to ask, what does a raw turnip taste like? I have never tried it. Did you pick a special variety?
Tina
Seriously, that Ryan of yours is an incredible healthy eater! Way to go Roni - you've instilled these healthy habits in him early on! TURNIPS!? Wow, I don't even think I've ever had them raw. And I'm a veggie lover, lol.

Woow love the lunch box ideas, will give a try with my two boys, One is a ok eater and the other he does not like anything.

Hey Roni... still totally loving your school lunch posts. Personally, I vote for Ryan actually IS eating all his food. I went to visit my son at lunchtime the other day (1st grade), and I was surprised to see that he'd wolfed through the food I'd packed in his lunch and everybody else was still eating stuff. They give them a LOT of time to eat lunch at school, but at home he'll eat in like 10-15 minutes and be off to play. Also, those fruit/veggie finger foods go quickly, because he doesn't have to do anything but pop them in his mouth. Kids with hot lunch are trying to open milks, spread butter, etc.
You're doing an AMAZING thing with his lunches, and it never ceases to amaze me what that kid will eat. I can't wait to see what all Lil Bean eats as he grows up, too. The avocado video was adorable!

No but they're creamy and have that bean texture. It's hard to explain. All 3 of us like them straight out of the can, just rinse and eat!
Eileen
I'll give them a try then. Beans have a TON of protein in them, and I can always use that!
Eileen
I love this series. I'm really fascinated by your giving him canned butter beans. I've never eaten them straight before...umm..do they taste like butter?
