    Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

    orange creamsicle smoothie pin

I wanted, I NEEDED, to start my day with a refreshing breakfast after my weekend of cookies, chocolate and potatoes. Yup.. that was pretty much all I ate for the last 3 days and boy am I feeling it!

So this morning's simple breakfast was just a way for me to start the day off on the right foot. It was a fun twist on my normally berry based smoothies.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I'm late with this but I have contacted the winners of the Creative Spice Set Contest and you can see them listed on the Spice Inc. web site. Look under Limited Edition Spice Sets. Very cool! I'm seriously thinking of asking them if I could have a spice set based on my recipes. I think it would be fun!

Anyway, here's how I made the smoothie...

    Ingredients

    • ½ cup fat free yogurt, plain (114g)
    • About ½ cup canned mandarin oranges in light syrup (126g)
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
    • About 5-10 ice cubes

    Instructions

    Blend all ingredients until smooth.

It wasn't overly sweet but perfectly favored. You could totally use vanilla yogurt but I wanted to keep the sugar content down and figured the sugar in the canned orange slices would be just enough. Which it was, for me anyway. 🙂

I just made this and it tasted delicious - I made a double batch, added a tsp of gelatine and poured into popsicle moulds to freeze as a yummy treat! only 1 point each, awesome!

Not sure what you are asking .I used canned oranges. No need to cut.

      (Comment on the Creamsicle Smoothie.)
During Smoothie Season, I alway keep an ice tray making orange juice ice cubes. Also ice cube trays of coffee, lemon or limeade, or drained juice from any canned fruits.
Jello NoSugar NoFat Chocolate Pudding mix with cold coffee, powdered milk, vanilla extract, and coffee ice cubes make a heck of good Mocha Smoothie. (Tempted to spike it with a coupla shots of Kahlua or Brandy or Rum or Bourbon)

Roni--I think you will be shocked by how green smoothies taste . . . as in, sooooo good. I really hope you try it soon and let everyone know about your trials. You will probably never go back.

I haven't made the leap to green smoothies yet. I'm not sure what's holding me back! I'm being a big chicken about it.

That being said.. I just bought some dates! I can't wait to see how they sweeten it!

Roni-have you ever added fresh or frozen spinach to a smoothie like this one? I find that the spinach does not alter the flavor of the smoothie but it adds unbelievable nutritional power. Of course, it does change the color of the smoothie! And for sweetness, I add a big date or two (without the pit of course) and holy cow . . . so good. Dates are so incredibly sweet and I feel good that I am eating a whole food that nature made.

      Hello fellow Veronica! 🙂

This one is definitely NOT the sweetest smoothie I've made. Try sweetened yogurt for an easy way to add it. I'm not sure honey would do it for me either. Good luck!

I used a regular navel orange and to get correct texture and sweetness added a slop of almond milk, about tablespoon of honey and splash of Tropicana orange juice. We have made 4 in past 2 days.

This one didn't work for me but I'm going to try again! I used mandarin oranges in juice instead of syrup so I added some honey but that didn't really blend up well and wasn't sweet enough so I'm going to try again since I've got a large open container of them in the fridge. I'll try Splenda next. I love this idea-thanks!

OMG - this was so good...we have two crates of clementines that my boys and I have been enjoying every morning, but it was getting boring. One clementine, a "shot" of Toriani SF Vanilla syrup and a FF yogurt - we're in love! This will be great to give them on the first day back to school Monday, I have a feeling we will be running late!! Thanks for all the wonderful recipes! I so admire you and what you do!

I do almost this exact recipe but use a frozen banana to up the fiber and nutrients (esp when I was pregnant) and I always thought it tasted like creamsicle, too! YUM, Roni!

That was good. I think I'll have to go with the vanilla greek yogurt next time, I need a little bit more sweet. I did end up adding a splenda to it so it was a little less bitter. I love creamsicles though, I think this would be a great summer afternoon snack.

Darleen - Just throw the orange in and sweeten a bit as you go until you find the right ratio for you. Smoothies are so easy just have fun with it!

I have several oranges in fridge - about how many oranges should I use to replace the mandarin, since I don't have in my cupboard? I am guessing 1? And should I add a bit of sugar? I will give it a try in the morning, as also need to have something lighter and healthier after the past few days of sweets and turkey dinners.

      thanks!

Oh yum! We just got a new Ninja Blender (with 6 blades!) for Christmas and we're dying to use it. This sounds perfect and totally decadent in flavor while still being a healthy choice.
