Green smoothies -- you're either in the make-them-all-the-time-camp, or you haven’t yet taken the leap because, let’s be honest, they look a little freaky.
I now find them appetizing. I guess it’s what you’re used to.
Anyway, I made this up in an attempt to get the 2-year-old to drink some cantaloupe after he refused to eat it with breakfast. The kid who hates fruit is at it again, this time turning his nose up to one of the only fruits he’s eaten since the beginning. Sigh.
Unfortunately the smoothie didn’t work with him, but I loved it! So simple and light, it made a great quick breakfast on a busy morning.
Here’s what I did...
Ingredients
- 100g ripe cubed cantaloupe
- 1 small orange, peeled
- 50g raw spinach
- ½ cup (114g) plain non-fat Greek yogurt
- 10 ice cubes
Instructions
Put the cantaloupe, orange and spinach in your blender. Just don’t do what I did and put the spinach near the blades. The melon will give you more than enough liquid to get everything moving.
Blend until smooth.
Once you have your green smoothie fruit base then add the yogurt and ice cubes. Blend again.
Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!

It looks kinda gross, but I made it anyways yesterday and it as awesome! Thanks for getting me to try something different, glad I did now.

This was so delicious and refreshing! But I couldn't get my 2-year-old to try it, either. She has no problem eating fruit but I'd like her to get more leafy green veggies.

That looks delicious! So simple and easy to make!

Wow! This is another great smoothie recipe. My daughter loves fruit smoothies but I never tried combining it with leafy veggies like Spinach. I hope she will like it. 🙂

Great recipe. Always looking for new smoothie combos.

It just entered my mind that "freaky" and "yucky" foods are in fact the "healthy" ones. (And they rhyme too.) Thank you for sharing this. Will be exploring more on this and see if it appeals to my palate.

Looks great! I would just put some healthy fat in that smoothie so that I would absorb all those vitamins and nutrients as well as keep me full longer! 1/4 of and avocado in a smoothie (sounds disgusting I know) is FABULOUS!

My 4 year old grand daughter hasn't eaten fruit for 2 years. She loved Trader Joe's fruit flakes, but they don't make them anymore. Any ideas on how to get her to eat fruit again would be greatly appreciated...or even a recipe for fruit flakes.

I used to be wary of green smoothies and juices because, as you've said it, they look freaky. But now, I make them whenever I can because we get to eat more veggies that way. I love cantaloupes, but I haven't tried them in a green smoothie. I can't wait to try out your recipe.

A kid that hates fruit?! That's a rarity!
