Oh. My. WORD! This was AMAZING!
I don't know what posed me to make it. I just came home from a run. I wasn't really hungry but knew I should eat something. So I whipped this up.
The flavors together are simply PERFECT. At least I think so. Dark chocolate! Banana! Almonds! I go gaga over each separately but together? Even tastier.
I used some specific brand name items in this idea which I normally try to avoid so I feel the need to explain each one a little.
I used the cocoa roasted almonds but I'm sure regular would be fine too. I'm just obsessed with this particular kind from Emerald. Even the Little Guy loves them. They add a wonderful texture to the smoothie. I only used ½ oz to keep the calories/fat low, but now that I've made it I think using more would actually make it too gritty. Unless, that is, you has some crazy blender that would pulverize them to dust. I used my Magic Bullet.
I also used Hershey's Special Dark chocolate powder. This stuff is like crack to me. All the awesomeness of regular unsweetened cocoa powder but dark. If you can find it (normally out around the holidays or you can get it here online) it's a fabulous addition to your pantry.
Finally, the almond milk. Again, I'm a huge fan but you could probably use regular skim or even soy. If you do , maybe put just a small dash of almond extract or even vanilla just to give it a boost of flavor.
Here's what I did…
Ingredients
- 1 medium ripe banana (a little brown)
- 6oz Almond Milk
- 1 tablespoon (5g) Dark Cocoa Powder
- ½ oz (14g) of Cocoa Roasted Almonds
- About 10 ice cubes
Instructions
Put all the ingredients in the blender except the ice cubes. Blend until smooth. Add the ice cubes, blend again.
Enjoy!

Just made this today...LOVED IT! I pretended it was a chocolate milkshake 🙂 And I also got 5 points from my ingredients (old points). Thanks for posting this!

I did count all ingredients, even the 0 point stuff. I'm pretty sure there is no "right" answer, at least Weight Watchers won't give me one. You have to see what works for you. I know those that count the total NI and those that don't.
Glad you liked it!!

This was so good this morning! However, when I put it in the WW online tracker it came to only 4 points plus. I wondered how you came to 7? Do you calculate all the nutrition information and then calculate points, which would include the zero point foods in the points? Just curious (and will most likely use my extra three points ~ because its day 2 and I'm huuuuungry!) 🙂

Love this, but I cannot have nuts in my house, they are a trigger for me. Today I made it again, but used a splash of Davinci SF white chocolate with the dark cocoa. Heaven.

If you're a coffee drinker, try adding half a cup of coffee to the mix.

I make almost the same thing too with the same ingredients minus the banana and add protein powder. Absolutely love it! I can't so tach bananas since I was a young child.

Charly - I was thinking the same thing. A scoop of protein powder would make it an awesome post workout recovery shake!

Yum yum yum! That's all I can say!

I made it this evening and it was awesome! Tomorrow morning I am going to try it with a little protien powder.

I should have added that I use the unsweetened chocolate almond milk. It has no added sugar but gives it a great chocolate taste. I bet with that and the addition of cocoa it would be divine.

I make this all the time but I use frozen bananas. Works out perfectly and it doesn't get watered down by the ice. It is a perfect way to save those bananas that are too ripe.

Ummmmm....YUM! What a great combo!
