This idea is so simple but I decided to share it because these are the kinds of snacks we forget about when running through the pantry at night, although I came up with it as a pre-workout bite on my way to the gym on Saturday. Either way, sometimes it's fun to get back to basics with our food and snack choices.
Oh! and I'm sure this would make an awesome snack for the kids, but both my boys are weird.
One doesn't like banana and the other hates nut butters. Crazy, right? I'll keep offering though. I'm confident they will come around. I mean it's BANANA AND ALMOND BUTTER! How can you not like it?
Anyway, here's what I did…
Ingredients
- ½ banana
- 1 tablespoon almond butter, or your favorite nut butter (16g)
- 1 teaspoon dark cocoa powder
Instructions
Cut the banana into thick slices.
Smear on almond butter.
To measure my almond butter (because I have a tendency to go overboard) I weigh a spoon on my scale, zero it out and then scoop the almond butter and re-weigh.
Sprinkle the Almond Butter Banana Bites with a bit of unsweetened cocoa powder. Of course, this is optional but it adds that little bit of something special.
Other ideas: Sprinkle with cocoa nibs, chia seeds, chopped nuts, or even ground flax. Why not make it a delivery device for other healthy additions? Or if you are in the middle of a chocolate craving, a few chocolate chips!

I LOVE almond butter. I have to measure out a TBS because I know myself too well and can easily go over-board on it. I have to go buy dark cocoa powder asap!... this looks SO GOOD!

Simple and brilliant!!

You are right, we so often forget about simple little treats like this. I did something similar over a year ago, but haven't done it since. And the idea of sprinkling a dusting of cocoa powder - PURE BRILLIANCE! yum, thanks for this one!

This is my usual week day breakfast minus the cocoa. I pair it with a bowl of blueberries or blackberries and YUM !
