A Less Green More Blue Simple Smoothie

I think I was getting slightly too adventurous in the "green" smoothie department. Not for me but for Little Guy. He's been less interested in them and I didn't want to lose this fun, way way to get "the good stuff" into him.

So I took a step back and made a simple, sweeter, less green, green smoothie.

    Mission accomplished...

He loved it! We had it along side breakfast two days in a row now. I love that his smoothie spark has been reignited!

    Here's what we did..

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup frozen blueberries (140g)
    • 2 cups baby spinach (43g)
    • 1 small container blueberry fat-free yogurt (4-6oz)
    • ¼ cup water

    Instructions

Blend all ingredients together until smooth.

I used my Magic Bullet. Blending in two batches because it all doesn't fit.

If you are using a traditional blender you may wanted to add a bit more water. It comes out nice and thick but the blades may stick.

I make smoothies with 1 banana, about a cup of rasp, blueberries, and strawberries. All fit into the one cup. I add water, sometimes a few tabelespoom coconut milk, 1 tsp ground flax seet, 1 tsp hemp hearts, 1 tsp maca. and sometimes I though a handful of baby spinach, and a dash of stevia. Very gooo.

Ok, so I tried it and am so glad I did, it's delish!!!

I've had it twice and know I'll have it often.

I used 1 frozen banana (when my bananas are very ripe I cut them up and freeze them in a baggie ready for whatever I might need, 1/2 cup fresh blueberries, 1/2 cup skim milk, handful of fresh spinach leaves, splash of vanilla. You all were right! I couldn't even detech the spinach in there.

going to try the chicken cordon bleu tonight.

Thanks Roni--I'll try it out, probably tomorrow. My husband is ridiculously okay with trying my smoothie umm...inventions. I used v8 and a carrot as a base the other day and then threw in fruit and he still liked it.

I have lots of lettuce in my garden (deep green colored variety) but my spinach never came up. Do you think that flavor would be too strong to blend b/c I don't want to waste it or buy spinach when I have fresh outside!

Jen - you REALLY can't. Just try a small handful. What's the worst that could happen? 😉

My son gets so excited when I make smoothies because the kids on The Fresh Beat Band eat and sing about smoothies all the time. It's fun for him to see it go from being on tv, to being in our kitchen.

My family loves smoothies, and this is so similar to our tried and true recipe - except that I've never had the guts to put in the spinach. Thanks for the tip about the vanilla extract, Tanya. I'm going to try this!

Just made this - with a little less spinach since this was my first time to try a "green" smoothie. It was so good! My husband and ds18 also gave it two thumbs up! My son didn't believe it had spinach in it, so I made another one so he could do a taste test. What a great way to get extra veggies in our diet! Thanks Roni!

      Jen;

You can't really taste the spinach. I have offered this drink to a small handful of people and they really enjoy it. I make mine with two greatbighandfuls! of spinach, a frozen banana, 1.2 cup yogurt, and 1/2 c 1% milk plus a small splash of vanilla extract. You can't taste the spinach. And it's extremely healthy and good for you.

Great way to get your greens in for the day if you're tired of salads (like me!) and want something quick and easy.

I have heard of shakes similar to this, but have yet to work up the courage to make one. Can you taste the spinach?
