Or as the husband likes to call it, jell-ogurt.

I came up with the idea for a St. Patty’s day treat and now I’m obsessed. Having a houseful of family for Easter weekend gave me the perfect opportunity to try the new dessert on others over the age of 2 (the toddler is already a fan). Well, it was a hit! My mom especially liked it, calling it a very refreshing dessert, great for a BBQ or summer party.

I decided to use a traditional jell-o mold and make 3 batches in 3 different flavors. The result was a very festive 3 layer refreshing dessert. Topped with fresh berries and a bit of light whip cream it’s just perfect!

The following recipe and nutritional information is for 1 batch of yelatin yielding 4 – ½ cup servings but you can, of course, get creative and festive with multiple boxes and flavors!

  • .3oz sugar free gelatin dessert (like jello) – any flavor
  • 1 cup (8oz) boiling water
  • 1 cup (227g) fat free plain yogurt (vanilla would be good with some flavors too!)

Dissolve the gelatin mix in the boiling water. Whisk in the yogurt. Refrigerate for about 2 hours until set.

So easy and so pretty!

    About how many servings did you get when using the jello mold? It looks awesome, I would love to try it. Did you prepare each layer with 1 cup of yogurt or are some just jello? Thanks for the information, love your ideas!!

    My mom used to make something like this when I was a kid. We always had it for 4th of July and just loved it.

    Her recipe used sour cream instead of yogurt – but I best it tastes the same. She also split up each of the flavors – she would pour half in w/out yogurt, then mix the yogurt in the other half. So it would be bright red, then the whitish red, then bright green, then whitish green, etc. So pretty and delicious!

    OK, I think this answers everyone’s questions….

    I’d make one batch of yelatin, add it to the mold, let it set and then added another.

    I first sprayed the mold with non-stick cooking spray. Worked like a charm!!

    As for servings in the mold, I used 4 boxes, each with 4 servings each. That makes 12 servings (although we got more then that out of it). Each layer was prepared with the yogurt although alternating regular jello and yelatin would be fun!!

    You can also do a variation of this with sour cream. Not sure if the FF sour cream would work but it is worth a try. My sister makes this all the time for holidays and picnics and it goes so fast.

    I finally gave in and made this…my kids really liked it and the yogurt cut the “bite” of sugar free jello, it was a nice consistency- it would be nice with fruit gelled in there as well. Lots of possibilities, you can put it in a graham cracker pie shell as well. Its a great idea, thanks!

    We’re obsessed here…just made it with lemon jello. I was saying to Roni, you could break up some 100 cal packs of oreos or graham cracker crumbs, throw them in a muffin tin and make mini yelatin pies! Hello lemon meringue pie! SO GOOD, this is the best!

    I made this on Friday! I used raspberry for the top and lemon for the bottom (those are the only flavors I had on hand). For the yogurt I used fat free Greek plain yogurt. It came out AWESOME!! I think banana Jello made this way would taste even better, so I am going to the store tonight to pick some up. Thank you Roni! Your site is great!

    I love this. I love what you did with the colors make’s it look even better- I’m all excited now and going to try it! My mum used to make a version of this for us when we were kids adding some evaporated milk (that tastes sooo smooth and good!) I made a version more like yours last night before I’d even seen this here!.. The only difference was that after adding the hot water to the Jello I put it in the fridge and let it start to set then added the yogurt with a hand full of crushed berries, whipping it all together in a mixer until it almost doubled in size.. makes like a jelly mousse :D SOO good! If you like this you have to try it!

    Just wanted to share I took Christines idea and made a graham cracker crust in a 9×13 pan and the used the lemon jello (sugar free) – it is VERY good with some low fat cool whip!

    I tried your Yelatin.. and let me tell you I am addicted! It is wonderful. I a cherry one and put it in a chocolate low fat graham cracker crust and a little ff cool whip on top and it was delicious! Good work!

    I think I’m going to try this once I get the yogurt stocked in my frig. Have you ever tried unsweetened applesauce in jello? The texture is a little different, but I think it’s very good -not sure if it’d be toddler aproved though! =]
