    Quick Chocolate Kettle Corn

    chocolate kettle corn pin

The long awaited, hope it's not a disappointment, kettle corn. No toddler in this one, I just needed a break!

However, he likes it, of course! The husband hasn't tried it yet, yeah, I know, don't ask.

    Ingredients

    • 1 microwave bag of 94% fat free popcorn popped
    • ¼ square of Unsweetened baking chocolate (3.5g)
    • 1 tablespoon honey (21g)

    Instructions

Pop the popcorn in the microwave according the instructions.

In a large (like a stock pot) pot melt the honey and chocolate over a very low heat. Stirring frequently to combine.

Slowly add the popcorn to the pot and stir to coat until all popcorn is added.

    Pour in bowl and ENJOY!

As for nutritional information, I'll split the whole batch into 4 servings but I can't lie, I routinely eat the whole bag. Just so you know the chocolate and honey only add about 80 calories and 2 g of fat.

P.S. Moved to a new video hosting service. What do you guys think? The next one won't be so grainy, I recorded this with the old one is mind.

you should investigate micro-wave popcorn. It should be taken off the market as it causes cancer

Thanks so much Roni! I had to saw my chocolate to get the 3.5 g but it was enough and worked perfectly.

Hi Ann, I'm not sure what the original serving size is of the squares I use but I do know I used a total of 3.5g.. whatever it would be. It was really a little amount, you can see it in the video.

      Hope that helps!

      Hi Roni!

I know you've got your hand full and I hope you're loving every minute of it 🙂

Question about the baking chocolate squares. I'm trying to be really good about weighing anf measuring everything. You said ¼ square of Unsweetened baking chocolate (3.5g). My squares are 28 grams each (serving size is equal to 1/2 square, 14g), so a quarter would be 7g. I thought they were regular size though. Are you sure about the 3.5g? I don't want to use more chocolate (or points) than necessary!

      Thanks!

Just made this and it's DELISH! I am in Spain visiting friends and they wanted me to make an "American dessert," but they lack basic ingredients to do so. I had NO idea what to make, so I looked at your desserts. It just so happened that we had all the ingredients in the house (chocolate, honey, popcorn). I added a tiny bit of margarine+salt since the microwave popcorn we had on hand was plain. It's sitting on some paper towel now. I am hoping that it dries crunchy, but maybe it'll just become mushy? If it becomes mushy, I'll just make another batch for dinner (this one was an overexcited test round).

      Thanks!!!!

Has anyone else tried "Wheylow" as a natural low-cal sweetener? I love it, my husband says he can't taste the difference even when dipping a finger in and tasting it! Please spread the word so this great product can get out into the world! http://www.wheylow.com Thanks Roni and everyone for the great ideas, as always.

PS - My husband tried it and pronounced it to be "too bitter". He doesn't understand chocolate 😉

Kim - Even using the solid chocolate?? That's how it is with the cocoa powder. I mean, it's a little sticky but far from a mass, there's just not enough chocolate. Sorry it didn't come out for you. Thanks for trying it!

Was I the only person to find it sticky? I like my popcorn sweet and crunchy (probably why I hit 190) but this stuck solidly in the bowl, even upside down. Taste was good but I had to pry each piece from the mass and from my fingers.

I am sitting here typing with chocolate fingers. Super yummy. Never would have thought of chocolate popcorn but I am glad you did. I also am terrible and once inawhile when I want super sweet do 1/2 square of chocolate and 1 1/2 T. Honey. Just a little stronger. Yummy again.

      Made it - VERY YUMMY!

For the air-pop people, just wanted to confirm - the 94% FF popcorn bag states it has 3 T per serving; therefore, the whole bag would be 6 T total. That means if you want to try to use airpopped corn, you would probably want to use a little less, like 5T. Correct?

So I was skeptical of the 1/4 square of chocolate for the whole bag of popcorn...but it really was more than enough!
      Loved it! Thanks Roni!

As for the butter, yes typo.

AS for the popcorn balls, YES! I do! It did stick together in clumps! I was actually thinking of going that way in the beginning.

Do you think that using the cocoa powder would make it sticky enough to make small popcorn balls? This looks awesome:) Thanks

Thank you for the recipe! Yay, it looks yummy! I was wondering though . . . did you know that they make 94% fat free kettle corn? I know that Orville Redinbacher makes it but I don't know about the other brands. . . I think I will use the 94% FF kettle corn to make this recipe! Thanks again!

PS I missed your toddler, but I bet it was SOOOO nice to have a break!

Since your ingred. didn't include butter did you mean chocolate? I love your websites and check them everyday. You are an inspiration. Thank you and keep up the awesome work!

LOVE this...Can't WAIT to try it! I do have one question. In the directions of the recipe..it says "In a large (like a stock pot) pot melt the honey and BUTTER over a very low heat. Stirring frequently to combine". Did you mean Honey and chocolate OR is there butter that I missed?

Genius! 94%FF popcorn is a great staple for high-volume/low-density happy times, and you made it even better!

PS good use of honey. I, too, am trying to rid the artifical stuff from my life (although here it's not really relevant, 'cause it doesn't brown like the natural sweeteners). Can't wait to try the recipe! 🙂
