Someone requested this Vintage GreenLiteBites recipe, but now I can't remember who or where. So whoever you are, I hope you find this!
That said, this is, out of all the recipes I've posted over the years, the one I still make the most. It has become a breakfast favorite of both kids. It is one of the very few things they both enjoy becuase let me tell you; they are opposites when it comes to food.
Case in point, my oldest LOVES banana but hates peanut butter.
My youngest loathes banana but will eat peanut butter by the spoonful right out of the jar.
Interestingly enough, this recipe has both those ingredients, but together it's a pair they agree tastes fantastic. We make it a few times a week, especially in the winter. It's a nice warm breakfast on a cold day.

Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal (aka The Most Amazing Bowl of Oatmeal EVER!) is a simple but tasty breakfast.
Ingredients
- ½ cup Old Fashioned Oats (40g)
- 6oz of water
- Pinch of Salt
- 1 tbsp Natural Peanut Butter (14g)
- ½ ripe Banana Mashed
- ½ tbsp Mini-Chocolate Chips
Instructions
Put the water, oats, salt and peanut butter in a small pot.
Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally for about 3 minutes until all the water is absorbed.
While the oats are cooking, mash your banana.
Once the water is all absorbed, and the oats are nice and gooey, add them to the mashed banana and mix everything together.
As if that wasn’t tasty enough, top with the chocolate chips!
Seriously delicious!
Notes
- The recipe listed is much how I make it for the kids, but I double the recipe and never really measure anything.
- For myself, I'll sometimes swap the peanut butter for PB powder if I'm watching fat and I've added a scoop of whey with great results to up the protein. Oh, I usually skip the chocolate chips. I don't think it needs it, but the kids do.
- It's a forgiving recipe, have fun with it. The takeaway is using a banana as the oatmeal sweetening; there's nothing else you need.
