    Makin' Southwestern Turkey Burgers

Updated: Oct 16, 2020 by greenlitebitescom · This post may contain affiliate links · 27 Comments

This Weeks video kind of speaks for itself. I got home from the gym and turned on the camera to show you how make Southwestern Turkey Burgers.

Yup, that's about it! Boring? Possibly. Of course there is no toddler to amuse you. I'm starting to wonder if I can carry a video all by myself. ;~P

      Roni,

I am the ultimate lurker. I have tried a few of your recipes, and loved them. I do have to comment on the turkey burger. First of all, I have been on weight watchers for 2 years and am slowy losing my weight (15 lbs to go). I have tried turkey burgers before, for the healthy burger option and also vegeburgers. I hated both the plain turkey and vege-burgers you buy in the store.

So I decided last week to try a turkey burger one more time. Your recipe of course. Can I say WOW! It was amazing. I highly recommend the recipe to any who are hesitant to try. They are yummy and filling.

You inspired me tonight. This with few changes (like adding some teryaki -- so it is Southwest Japan Turkey Burgers). Great meal and not tempting to over eat.

This is going to be funny and cheesy....you are warned...

You look fantastic. No make-up, you're in gym clothes and a pony tail and you still look wonderful. Not to mention I cannot wait until my belly does not stick out past my boobs...haha...Don't laugh too hard.

I've always been afraid of ground turkey; just could never get the taste I wanted and too dry. You're the second person I've seen load it with other ingredients and it looks wonderful. I need to give ground turkey another try with your recipe and more spices.

Roni....What do you mean all sweaty and no makeup?? You look radiant! Your turkey burgers sound wonderful, and I agree the finer you chop the better. I have a Foreman grill but hate cleaning the darn thing. So I would probably just skillet them on the stove... I have loved all your dishes and look forward to this one.

I've heard corn starch is a good ingredient for keeping burgers together.

Hi Roni! Love the videos you make.

I make a similar version on turkey burgers. Usually I pulse my oatmeal in the blender a few times so my picky kids don't complain.

Also, if I'm being *really* lazy, I use Ro-Tel (diced tomatoes & green chilies) or salsa.

One more thing, you can make these in bulk (using the whole 20 ozs at once) & freeze raw between strips of waxed paper. In the morning, transfer to the fridge and they are usually thawed by lunch. For me, they seem to hold together better after being frozen.

Anyway, thanks for posting. I love your pizza ideas. Specifically, the lavash bread. I never would have purchased it otherwise! Have a great day!

That's funny...I made these from your recipe a while ago and froze the 3 patties that I had left. I defrosted one for lunch just yesterday, and then you post a video about them! They are one of my favorites!

      Roni,

I loved the turkey burger idea...after the video was over I watched your produce pick video on the prickly pears and I couln't stop laughing! YOu guys are so funny together. I'm from Mexico and we eat those there all the time, they are called Tunas, the seeds are actually edible. The ones you got were just fine, that's how they all look. You cut the ends, and then the skin across, it comes right off!

      Hi Roni

A truly lazy cook--like me a lot of times--will use frozen diced onions and pre-cut peppers! Thanks to you I'm just getting into ground turkey and use it instead of vegetable or soy crumbles because I'm trying to cook with real, whole foods as opposed to processed ones.

I love Mrs. Fanning's Bread and Butter pickles and have even chopped them up--when I'm not particularly lazy--and put them inside the burger. And instead of oats, I sometimes use flax meal as a binder.

Another recipe you might try is Picadillo/Cuban Sloppy Joes. There are plenty of variations online and it makes an easy, tasty meal served over brown rice. I've made it quickly in a skillet and in a slow cooker. Both come out great.

Finally, I love that jacket. It would definitely manage to somehow make it's way into my wardrobe rotation instead of my husband's! Very cute. Do you know where he got it?

Ok, I'll have to agree with Jynell and Liz. I also cut my veggies "in bulk" to save LOTS of time and much precious energy! 🙂 I also enjoy watching you cook. It's not as intimidating as those cooking shows on TV. And we all get to hear you ramble on about this and that which is great! 🙂 I have been a reader of your website for at least a few years! You have come so far! Great job! You are truely one of my main inspirations! OH! And the turkey burgers turned out SO AWESOME! I now know why you said that these are so much better than an actual hamburger! Guilt free as well! 🙂 These are going to be a lifesaver when the family wants bbq hamburgers!

Roni, You've got to read Officer Buckle and Gloria... it's a children's book (really short) that your comment about being successful w/o the toddler reminded me of. Keep up the great work.

      Roni,

How can you call yourself a lazy cook? You chop the pepper strips one at a time!! Us TRULY lazy cooks chop at least 4 or 5 strips at once! ;D

      They sound yummy btw!

I love making turkey burgers! They are just as good as beef burgers, if not better. I agree with you. I also love sweet pickles. Some will call them bread & butter chips, but they will always be sweet pickles to me. lol The sugar free sweet pickles and relish of the same brand are really good.

I'm so glad you mentioned the ratio of cumin to chili powder you use. I usually just throw some in the pot when I'm making chili, never really knowing what the ratio is (I usually add my seasongings by instinct when it comes to cooking).

Another thing, that jacket really goes well with the color scheme of this page! The green with the white and the darker color just all went together nicely.

      Thanks for another great recipe!
