    Makin' Oven Burgers

This recipe could be considered a failure. I guess. I mean... I loved it but I didn't even try it on the husband because I knew he wouldn't and the toddler declared the burgers too "oniony". Either way, I'll still share as you can, at least, take the idea and make it your own by skipping the onion or even adding something else.

The idea is burgers in the oven. Simple, I know, but sometimes I think we forget there is more then one way to skin a cat. We could could easily grill these, or pan fry but sometimes I just like putting something in the oven and forgetting about it while I'm doing other things.

The husband did actually like his burger, the plain one, cooked in the oven. And we all enjoyed the fries and beans. So I guess dinner wasn't a total disaster. 🙂

As for the video we lose the toddler about 3 minutes in. and it's a bit long as I make the whole meal on camera. For that reason I posted how I made each item below. I hope it gives you some ideas.

    The Fries

    Ingredients

    • One large Baking Potato
    • Kosher Salt
    • Non-stick cooking spray

    Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees

Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Spray with nonstick cooking spray.

Leave the skin on the potato and cut into fry like pieces. Soak and rinse in cold water for a few minutes. Pat dry with a paper towel and place on the lined cookie sheet.

Spray the tops with non-stick cooking spray and sprinkle with Kosher salt.

Bake for about 35-40 minutes turning at least once.

    The Beans

    Instructions

Open a can of your favorite beans. Drain a bit of the liquid and place the can in the oven with the fries.

    The Burgers

    Ingredients

    • 8oz lean ground beef
    • ¼ of a small onion diced small
    • 3 cloves of garlic minced
    • ½ of a small bell pepper diced small
    • ½ cup oatmeal (40g) (Accidently used 30g in the video)
    • 1 tablespoon worceshtire sauce
    • ½ tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 egg

    Instructions

Mix all ingredients with your hand and form into 4 patties just over 3 oz each.

Place the patties on a rack placed over a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil.

    Bake for about 30 minutes.

Here's the nutritional information just for the patty...

This is SO not a failure! It was one of the best "healthy" burgers I've had. I cooked mine on the stovetop, and did the fries in the oven. It definitely fulfilled my burger craving. Thanks!

I acutally made this (kinda) last night before I read your post. My burgers were made on the stovetop- at the husband's request. For the fries, the only thing I did differently is instead of using non-stick spray, I put some olive oil in to a ramekin and used a brush to brush it on the potatoes lightly. I love the flavor of real olive oil on roasted veggies. I think the recipe looks great!

Nancy - I don't feel comfortable estimating salt as I never measure how much I use. When I do use it, like in the fries above, I just say "kosher salt" allowing you to decide how much to add for your taste and health reasons.

I hope you understand. It's great suggestion I'm just not quite there yet. 🙂

How about analyzing for salt in the recipes and showing this too? We all eat too much of it. We have heart disease and high blood pressure in our families so we are cutting back and also trying to teach the kids to use less of it. Most of your recipes should be pretty good. I think they recommend 1500 mg/day and max 2400 mg/day....

Hey Roni- You should try doing foil-pack burgers in the oven. Marinate the meat and shape into patties. Then, place patty on foil and put a few onion slices on top. Fold up the sides of the foil and then roll the other sides up--there should be no openings for air....the burgers steam and stay moist. Cook for about 40-45 min on 350. We always do another foil pack of frozen veggies (broc, cauli, carrots) and put a little Dale's seasoning over them. They come out perfectly steamed too! Each person gets a foil-pack patty and a pack of veggies.

It sure sounds like a great idea! I was just having a hamburger debate with my hubby tonight (I apparently don't cook meat in patty form often enough for his liking) - so this recipe came at the perfect time! 🙂

Ryan and his trees in his belly - LOL 🙂
