Make Your Own 100 Calorie Popcorn Packs - Video Post

Updated: Oct 16, 2020 by greenlitebitescom · This post may contain affiliate links · 23 Comments

For this weeks video, the title really says it all.

You'll have to excuse my appearance, I ran earlier and have been doing errand after errand. I literally didn't have time for a shower!

The two seasonings I use all the time and show in the video...

    • Kernel Seasons White Cheddar
    • Jolly Time Instant Buttery Seasoning, 6-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 24)

    100 Calorie Homemade Microwave Popcorn

Place 2 tablespoon (33g) of unpopped kernels in the bottom of a small brown lunch bag. Fold the top over and place in the microwave for about 2 minutes.

It may not take the full two minutes. Stay by the microwave and once there 2-3 seconds between pops.

Remove from microwave and add your favorite seasoning!

      Roni,
Just tried this and it is soooooo good. I sprayed nonstick spray on it in the bag and sprinkled cinnamon and the teeniest bit of sugar on it. Yum!
Found the bags on sale and the popcorn was super cheap...did the math and it came out to like 6 cents per 100 calorie serving!

I just viewed your video with my 5 children and they really enjoyed watching your son co-star. Now, on to the popcorn.. looks GOOD. My kids are hopping to try it, but it is bedtime so they will have to wait till tomorrow. Thanks for sharing the video. I had heard that you could do this but was unsure if it really worked so simply. It looks really easy from your video. Thanks for the motivation!

Hey Roni, great video! I was gonna try it but I'm out of popcorn right now 🙁 . Anyway I am one of your former students @ ccbc and I like the site layout! Green is my favorite color too.
Btw, you should try to post your videos on youtube, itunes and etc and you can reach millions of viewers and maybe become a internet celebrity... Like Veronica Belmont from cnet... GL!

Thanks for the tip, Roni. It seems silly to make 3T when 1T is wasted, and you get the same amount with 2T of kernels. 🙂 I'll be trying it again today!

Shannan - I think 2tbsp pops better - meaning less wasted kernels. Just a thought. If you try it, let me know.

Glad everyone is liking the idea!

This is ingenious.....I had NO idea that this was even possible without using a fancy air popper. This just made my day!

I just tried this for my afternoon snack. It worked like a charm (though I was skeptical!) and I think it even tastes better than the microwave mini-bags.

Better yet, it's a heck of a lot cheaper. Thanks for another great idea!

      Roni,

I just got my new food scale and tried the popcorn. It really works! I used the equivalent of 3T (39 g) and about a third of them remained unpopped. Even so, a lot did pop, and it's so good without the fake butter that usually coats the commercial bags and all the salt. Thanks again for the idea!

      Hi Roni,

This is a great video! I had no idea I could microwave my own popcorn and the prepacked stuff is getting more expensive so I have stopped buying it.

Like other people, I am afraid of blowing my microwave up so I never would have tried this if I didn't watch you make it live.

I am going to pick up some brown lunch bags this afternoon so I can give this a try. Thank you so much for sharing this idea!

That's so funny, they were talking about doing this at my Weight Watcher meeting recently. It's nice to actually see the finished product.

Holy crap! This is awesome! I'm never buying "regular" popcorn again! I have a zillion brown lunch bags I've had for like, 4 years.. I might as well use them! I think... this is your coolest idea! 😛

Right on time!!! Popcorn is one of the approved snacks for public school and buying ready popped gets pricey. We can make it at home. My seven year old will have fun helping me make it! Thanks for all the effort you put into this!

Thanks so much for showing us this! I would never have attempted homemade microwave popcorn for fear of blowing up something. I just bought a huge bag of kernels for 99 cents and was hesitating using the fancy popcorn cart hot air popper my sister gave me because I didn't want to have to keep cleaning it out every time I wanted popcorn. This is a great solution to that! I'm also going to look into the seasonings. I tend to avoid them because of the salt, but I might give that a try, too.

Me again! We've also been using the "Kernel Seasonings" for a few months now. AWESOME! The white greater is so yummy!! The regular cheddar, Is ok.. Not as good. I also just got a thing of the "Molly Mcbutter" for my popcorn, etc. 🙂

Isnt this the best!? I figured this out about a week and a half ago and have since become OBSESSED with it. I just love popcorn, and you just cant go wrong with Cheap and Fairly easy!! You can even make up your bags ahead of time for easier/faster popcorn!! Its wonderful!!

You have to try the ranch kind of the Kernel Seasons if you can find it. It is the best stuff in the world!
