That’s right. This is a cocoa-tea! The idea hit me when I was craving chocolate the other night and refused to dip into the halloween candy. Again.
Instead, I hit the pantry and decided to experiment with a spiced hot cocoa idea using this Organic Fair Trade Unsweetened Cocoa Lake Champlain sent me months ago.

The result was amazing! A warm, satisfying hot cocoa drink with a fun twist.
I’ve made it 3 times since coming up with the idea and if I didn’t run out of Honey Vanilla Chamomile tea bags, I’d make myself some right now!
Here’s what I did…
- 8oz Almond Milk
- 1/2 tbsp Honey
- 1 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 Honey Vanilla Chamomile tea bag
- dash of nutmeg
Put the milk, honey, cocoa powder and cinnamon in a small sauce pan. Whisk over medium heat until everything is dissolved. Add the tea bag.

Let the tea steep in the warm milk for at least 1-2 minutes. Bring to a light boil.
Remove the tea bag and squeeze between 2 spoons to remove excess liquid.
Pour into a tea cup and add a pinch of nutmeg to the top.

Enjoy!
Oh! And the Cocoa Powder is glorious! Smooth and dissolved beautifully in the milk. I love trying new cocoas.
Disclosure: Lake Champlain sent me the cocoa powder to try. I was not compensated in any other way for this post. All opinion expressed are my own.

What a great idea! I’ve tried some chocolate teas, but have been totally unimpressed. I think doing it this way would make for a richer tasting beverage and you could really use whatever flavor tea you wanted. I’m so trying this tonight! Thanks, as always, for the great inspiration.
You totally just made my night. I have all of these things here at the house and you better believe it’s being made! Thanks for your great idea!
Why do you use almond milk?
Because I like it. :) Use any milk you like!
Sounds so interesting I gotta try it. Thinking of trying peppermint tea as well.
I used to make something similar with a chai tea bag. Would be super yummy to give this a try!
That looks good Roni! Putting it on my list to try.
We don’t buy honey any more, but I do have sugar free syrup, would that or splenda be an all right alternative? I bought this tea tonight, not even thinking about this recipe…until about half way home from the store. I can’t wait to try it. Oh, also, Roni, do you get a weird after taste with warm almond milk? I use unsweetened vanilla, I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
Any sweetner would work, I’ve just really got a taste for the honey now. As for the milk, I never noticed a taste, I just use unsweetened almond. Maybe it’s the vanilla?? Not sure. Although I always thought regular warmed milk had a funny taste so it may be me. :)
