Did you know yesterday was Milk Chocolate Day? yeah.. me either. If I did I would have consumed more of the best stuff on earth. 🙂 I actually had no chocolate on hand so I celebrated by making a simple yet super tasty breakfast!
This is one of those "why-didn't-I-think-of-this-before" ideas. I'm a big fan of light chocolate soy milk. It has a strikingly similar nutritional profile as regular old skim milk only better because it has CHOCOLATE in it. 🙂
I've been using it in my grapenuts for some time now. Which is especially yummy with sliced banana or blueberries or both! That has taken over as my favorite breakfast. But this morning being out of fresh fruit I decided to go the warm route. And this was fantastic.
Ingredients
- 5 oz light chocolate milk
- ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats (40g)
- ½ oz almonds (I used the chocolate kind (Cocoa Roast Almonds)
- My favorite!)
Instructions
Put the milk and oatmeal in a small pot and bring to a boil while stirring. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook until desired thickness. For me it was about 2-3 minutes.
Pour in bowl and top with almonds!

Add some sugar? I've learned to love the "blandless" of oatmeal. The name brand stuff (pre-flavored) is now way to sweet for me.
M
it was my first time having oatmeal...tasted so bland 🙁

yeah oatmeal skirts that 2-3 line and I'm a big believer in rounding up. So I count it as 3. I think it also depends a bit on the type.. Old fashion, quick, etc, because even though gram for gram they are the same 1/2 cup doesn't always equal a half cup. At least that's how I THINK it goes. 😉

I make chocolate oatmeal using 1/2c oats, 1c water then mix in a packet of Diet Hot Cocoa Mix! Yum!!
Roni when I look up 1/2c Quaker Old fashioned Oats on my etools they come up as 2pts not 3pts.... But they also list them without a brand name and 1/2c is 2.5pts! Ack you would think they would have them be the same!

OMG what a brilliant idea!!!! It's like a DUH moment isn't it... well no kidding that would be marvelous! LOL Thanks for thinking of it and sharing it.
This week's determined goal.. I will have oatmeal 3x minimum this week.. and now with the chocolate soy.. watch out! LOL
Thanks!

I love chocolate oatmeal. Your recipe looks delicious! I wouldn't be able to have the chocolate almonds around - I'd eat them all at once! You do a great job of managing your portions. Thanks for sharing your recipes. I am always looking here to get new ideas. I must tell you, I LOVE your Southwestern Turkey Burgers.

h1 Jenna !
6 is a high breakfast when you are losing. I'd count it as 4 without them.. haven't done the NI but the oatmeal is 3 and the milk is 1.
AS for the almond milk I think it's pretty similar, for half a cup you're looking at about a point each.

What a lovely & easy yummie breakfast!!
MMMMMMMMMMMM,...

yum! I eat oatmeal every morning (that grapenuts with choc soy milk (Is choc soy milk more cals then choc almond milk? As I like almond milk taste better then soy) 6 points is a bit high for me for bfast as I only get 21 now! Yikes! I cant wait to be in maintenace to get some of my long lost points back! (10 pounds away!) How many points less wihtout with almonds? even though they look fabulous! I have those almonds I think they are 3 points a serving....and they are so yum!

I'm so glad somebody else likes chocolate oatmeal too! Normally I just put a couple teaspoons of cocoa powder in mine, but chocolate milk is such a great idea! I'll definately have to try this soon.
