I hate taking photos of smoothies. I never know how to approach them to give you an idea of how the smoothie tastes. I mean, I guess you can't, really, but photographing actual food is so much easier.
Anyway, since I started tracking macros and upping my protein intake this smoothie has become one of my go-to's. Its texture is very reminiscent of a Frosty from Wendy's, so it tastes delicious. Plus, it helps me kick off the day with a protein boost.
Pasteurized cartons of egg whites are sold in most grocery stores, and I love using them as the liquid in my smoothies. It's an inexpensive, easy way to up the protein while helping the texture. When combined with a little whey and frozen banana you get a rich, dessert-like result.
Speaking of the banana, I buy a bunch every week and freeze whatever we have left once they turn brown. Simply peel and stick the bananas in a plastic bag or freezer container.
Peanut Butter Cup Protein Smoothie
Prep

Yield 1 Serving
This "frosty"-like smoothie packs a whopping 36g of protein and taste more like dessert than a post-workout breakfast.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen bananas (~90g)
- 5 ice cubes
- 150g egg whites from the carton
- 1 scoop (15g) unflavored whey protein powder (I used Naked Whey)
- 2 tbsp (24g) peanut flour (I use Tru-Nut)
- 1 tbsp (5g) Hershey's Cocoa - Special Dark (Powder)
- 1 tbsp (5g) Hershey's Cocoa - 100% Cacao Natural Unsweetened
Instructions
Put all ingredients in the bullet and blend until smooth, thick and frothy.
Notes
- YES, it is completely safe to consume pasteurized egg whites from the carton "raw". I've been using them as the liquid in my smoothies for years. It's a cheap and easy way to up the protein in smoothies.
- This smoothie will increase in volume when blended. Make sure to keep enough room in the blender/bullet.
- I use both cocoa powders because I like the flavor but you would easily use 2 tbsp of whatever unsweetened cocoa you have. It will work just fine.

Can I omit the PB flour and use something else instead, what could I use instead of PB flour
HI RONI - I am so very happy that you are back!!! I do want to comment that this seems to be a lot of calories doe a smoothie. Any recommendations for pulling the cals back to be more WW friendly? I have joined WW and the nutritional loving life on it. And I have missed you & your boys!
Hi Roma! Thanks!
If I wanted to cut back calories I'd reduce the protein, maybe half the egg white and only use 1 tbsp cocoa powder and 1 tbsp of peanut butter flour. I've made this with no protein powder too, just egg white, banana, PB flour and cocoa powder. That's all you really need.
That looks super yummy!!!
This looks good!
So happy to have Green Lite Bites back!
