I'm making history here at GreenLiteBites. My first ever alcoholic beverage! What can I say? I was in the mood. It was a hot day. We spent most of it outside working on the yard, BBQing some chicken, and then took the little guy to a local carnival. Once the toddler was in bed and the husband mentioned he may have a beer, I got a hankering for a summer drink.
My version doesn't follow the traditional recipe for margaritas, at least I don't think it does. I know there's something about a 3:2:1 ration or something.Honestly, I don't really care, I used what I had on hand and as I sip and write this, I couldn't be happier with the result. 🙂
Ingredients
- 1 oz lemon juice
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 oz tequila
- ½ oz triple sec
- 1-2 packets of sweetener (I used truvia
)
- ice cubes
Instructions
Place all the ingredients in a blender or Magic Bullet. Blend. Can't get much easier then that!
A first I used 1 packet of truvia which made a real sour drink so I added another and it was a bit too sweet. Start with 1 and add based on your taste. I was even thinking agave would be tasty in this.
Now, if you don't have triple sec don't fret. It works without it. You may want to add a dash of orange juice just to get the citrus flavor. You may be better off too. Triple sec is the biggest calorie add to this recipe. Without it you save over 50 cals and 5g of sugar. Here's the nutritional information as I made it above.

Hope you like it Rose.. Yup Agave for the stevia... although it will add a few more calories.

Oooh. . I can't wait to try this. Maybe tomorrow after WI! And would you use Agave Nectar instead of the Stevia??? I'm in the mood for a drink!

Next time that's what I'll be doing! 🙂

You have got to try Agave Nectar - Both Tequila and Agave nectar come from the Agave plant so it would be a natural mix!

This looks great! Makes me want to run to the liquor store, oh wait, it's Memorial Day and they're not open on holidays... UGH

so glad you included this! in fact, i am wondering about other lower-cal/healthier versions of fun summer drinks (maybe i'll go google pina coladas). i went for the store-bought margarita mix this weekend but with yours i could have been getting my vitamin C 😉
glad you've been having a great weekend - summer is the best!

Mmmmmm....we must be thinking the same thing I just got back from Applebees...I love the Blue Coconut Margarita. I know that your version is lower calorie and TONS cheaper.

My first comment (been following Roni's sites for years) and of course, it's about a cocktail 😉 Looks really yummy! And not nearly as caloric as the resturant ones I really NEED to get a magic bullet.
Thanks Roni!

Ooooh... that looks good. I will give that a try. I just may try it today as the weather here feels like a big thick, heavy heat blanket was dropped over the east coast of Florida. I have a remake of a pina colada that is tasty. I will try and post it later. 🙂
