Cherries are in season! At least I think they are since they are all over my grocery store. The little guy totally freaked when he saw them this weekend. He’s a cherry fanatic! So we picked up a half a pound.
Normally we just eat them straight up but I was inspired tonight by a chocolate craving and a desire for dessert. Here’s what I came up with. Warning: I went a picture happy…
- 1 whole grain sandwich thin (I found new square ones!) (you could also use a slice of bread rolled out or a tortilla)
- 1 tbsp mini chocolate chips (14g)
- 1oz (28g) fresh cherries – about 5
Start by pitting the cherries. Cut them in half and fish it out with a knife OR get yourself Oxo Good Grips Cherry Pitter a handy dandy cherry pitter. It’s one of the few “uni-taskers” I actually use.
Once the cherries are pitted, half them.
As you’ll see in all the pictures, the little guy got pretty handy with it!
Here’s the cherries and the sandwhich thin (and the little guy.)

Cut the thin in half and spread the mini chips on one side.

Place the halved cherries on top on the chips. Replace the top.

Heat a skillet over medium high heat. Spray with non-stick cooking spray. Transfer the thin to the skillet. Cook for 1 minute pressing it with a spatuala or smaller pan. We used a tea kettle.

Flip and cook for an additional minute while pressing it down a bit. Cut into smaller rectangles and eat!

Oh.. one more shot. I posted so many already, why not? ;)

Oh yum! That looks delish! What brand of sandwich thin is that?
It’s the Arnold’s one.. link to ronisweigh.com
Ohhhh…I bet that would be good with strawberries too!
yumm. That would be SO good w/ bananas
Just tonight I googled pitting cherries and found a youtube video showing how to pit them using a paperclip. Easy peasy!
Swoon! You can’t be cherry and chocolate! I wish we had these thin thingies in the UK. Yummo…
you can’t BEAT cherry and choc, that should’ve been. Too busy drooling to type properly.
Try it on a thin slice of whole grain cut in half. Or even a whole grain English muffin. I bet you it would be just as good!
This looks awesome – I’m off to get the ingredients right away!
Hi Roni,
I can’t make these. Unfortunately I would not be able to stop at one serving!
Colleen
My philosophy… if you only make one.. you can only eat one. Wait until you only have 1 slice of bread left. ;)
OMG! I’ve been following all your recipe creations for YEARS now – and THIS ONE TAKES THE CAKE!!!!! AMAZING!
This looks so delicious! What a great treat.
I agree with allijag….this one is amazing!!! I especially love how you showed step by step pictures. I love any recipe that shows lots of instructional recipes. I’m making these tonight! Kathy
Ps. Your little guy is growing!
Oh. My. God.
YUMMMM.
OMG…I tried this and it was fabulous! You are right…cherries are in season. I used an Arnold’s honey wheat sandwich thin. Yummy yummy t
yummy… And only 3 points! I may try it with strawberries too :-)
This sounds AMAZING. I’m so going to try this! Thank you!
Woo-hoo! I’m in love! But where’s your review? Come on, did you like it? Was it crispy on the outside? Juicy & melty on the inside? Give us the scoop.
LOL It was so good I think I was in shock when I wrote it up! It was crisp thanks to the high heat, non stick cooking spray and kid pressure. ;) The inside was warm and gooey-ish. The chocolate mixed with the cherry that almost seem to melt a bit. It was perfectly simply and delicious.
How’s that? ;)
Can’t wait to try this! Fantastic idea!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
haha–thanks, Roni, that’s perfect. I’m all about food descriptions–now my mouth is watering! mmmmmm.
Hi Roni,
Wanted to let you know that we made your Grilled Cherry and Chocolate Melts today. We were trying different ingredients and the final results from all 6 children that were eating them, unaninous…chocolate chips, banana slices, on flax/oatmeal wraps. yummy. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh! I needed a new night-time treat for completing workouts (that’s my daily gratification) and this looks DIVINE!!! Thanks for posting! I can’t wait to try this!
I have been craving this since you posted. I finally had a chance to buy the ingredients today. Yummy snack tonight!
This was SOOOOOOO good!
I did mine with dark chocolate chips. Nummy!
I carried around this recipe in my bag for 16 days, I finally made them last night, and oh wow, yummo!!!! With that being said, I am lazy, and will definitly do it again. I may have to do it with blueberries because it took me too long to pit the cherries, either way, thanks for sharing, it’s in my cookbook!!
Also, anyway we can make this healthy: link to thepioneerwoman.com
no butter? grill the veggies and perhaps pam?
I just made this for a late afternoon snack (to avoid going out and purchasing somethign really unhealthy like ice cream). This really hit the spot! I see a whole new world of hot fruit sandwiches — PB and Banana, Almond Butter and Peaches, whoo hoo!
I love this with the cherries. I just tried it with bananas and it was fabulous as well!
This sounds amazing as a dessert, and I just had a thought for a breakfast! Make a piece of french toast, cut it on a diagonal, fill it with the cherries and chocolate, cook it again just to melt the chocolate! I’m going to try it this week and let you know! haha
