Roni’s Chicken Surprise - Video Post

Posted in: Dinner Ideas, Food Photos, Soup/Stew Ideas, Toddler Approved, Video Posts |

As I say in the video, this is an old favorite of mine. It’s fast, it’s easy and it’s good! ;~P The toddler had 3 bowls!! (well toddler bowls so that was about a full serving). He kept saying, “more, pwease.”

The husband, well, he ate it and he likes it but remember he’s not a stew man so it isn’t his absolute favorite.

Me? Well, I can eat the whole friggin’ batch. Seriously, it’s an easy comfort food for me. Let’s just say, we don’t have any leftovers. ;~P

Roni's Chicken Surprise

  • 8 oz (½ lb) chicken breast cut into chunks
  • 1 package of chicken flavored noodles (like Lipton Pasta Sides, Chicken)
  • 1 ¾ cup water
  • 1 can (15oz) can cream style corn
  • 8 oz frozen peas

Brown the chicken in a saucepan sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.

Add the water and noodles, bring to a boil. (Be sure to stir, noodles may stick)

Add the corn and pease, bring back up to a boil, then lower to a simmer for 10 minutes.

Serve!

I’m going to seerate the recipe into 4 servings for ease but as I said the three of is polished it off. If you split it into 3 equal servings it would be 7 WWPs each.

This reminds me so much of Chick-fil-A’s chicken noodle soup! I am totally making this for the weekend with carrots and celery!! Thanks for a really cool idea, as always :)

I didn’t even watch the video (because I’m at work) and I’m sold. It looks delicious.

I think I just found the way to use up the leftover peas in my freezer!

I just found your websites last night after signing up for ww online for the 3rd time! 3rd time’s a charm, right? Anyway, I’m in love with your sites. So motivational and helpful! I am making a grocery list right now!!

My son was born in April of 2005, and we just watched this video. We both loved it! I of course like the food preparation & seeing you interact with your toddler! Jaxon liked watching Ryan and was talking to him and waving!!

I can’t wait to come back for more!!

    Thank you, thank you!!

Do you think this could be made with Turkey breast? I have a bunch of wild turkey (no, not the alcohol) in the freezer that I have no idea what to do with.
    Thanks!

    The recipe sounds yummy!

He is so cute! Can’t stand it. And the chicken surprise looks good, too :)

Tried it for dinner tonight … and I’m really glad I still have two more servings to eat. It went together fast and tasted delicious. The worst part was cutting up the chicken.

It reminds me a little bit of Hamburger Helper (but with chicken, and without the fat-filled, cheesy sauce. Oh, how I miss Hamburger Helper!)

I made this for dinner last night and it was really good. DH isn’t a huge stew fan either but he ate most of his and said it was good. He wasn’t jumping up and down though. I, on the other hand, had two servings. BTW, the portions are huge!

Great recipe - I love comfort food. My 14 year old son, very picky 11 year old daughter and even the 15mos old baby girl all ate it. The two older kids NEVER like the same food, so this was amazing! Also, the baby doesn’t usually like casseroles, but kept “asking” for more of this. Thanks for a great easy meal! PS - hubby doesn’t like casseroles - but ate his whole serving without complaining. :)

Had this for dinner tonight and I have to bring up two points about it!
    1. It is DELICIOUS!!! The flavors are wonderful!
    2. This is the absolute fastest dinner in the world to put together.

Try it you won’t be disappointed!

Roni- Did you know these whole-grain noodle packages have been discontinued?! I haven’t been able to find them anywhere so I emailed the company. Very frustrating! I thought I had finally found a healthier alternative to one of my favorite foods!

YUM! I am making this tomorrow, not sure if toddler 2 will eat it, kid 1 one will.

I made this for dinner last night and it was great. Quick and easy! It kind of reminded me of chicken pot pie. Instead of just peas, I used a variety of frozen veggies I had on hand, peas, carrots, green beans, and mushrooms. My husband and I really enjoyed it!

  21. Kat on February 2, 2009 9:00 pm

    This was awesome!

Just tried making this in the crockpot…turned out great. Placed the frozen chicken in the crockpot with the soup and water and let cook on low all day. Threw in the peas and some extra mushrooms when I got home. About 12-15 minutes before eating turn the heat up to high and stir in the pasta. Yum! Thanks for the idea.
