I’m tired of not being able to find Black bean dip in the stores. Am I the ONLY person who likes it or something? There only seems to be a few brands that carry it and not many stores stock it so those of us that like it are, for lack of a better phrase, $hit out of luck.
My solution…
Let’s make our own. My first attempt was good, a bit sweet with a spicy kick, just how I like it. I think next time I’ll add some salsa and bell pepper but this should give you a base to try your own.
Ingredients
- 1 15 oz can black beans drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- 1 clove of garlic
- 5-6 jarred jalapeño slices
- 1 tablespoon jarred jalapeño “juice”
- ⅛-1/4 cup of water
Instructions
Blend all ingredients in the food possessor or blender until well blended adding water when needed.
Serve with not only baked chips but veggie slices too! It’s fabulous with carrots and pepper strips!

Delish! I ate it with tortilla and it was a great snack. Sometime I might move on to eating it with veggies...babysteps!

Kelly - You know I LOVE Trader Joe's but I have no idea how they get theirs SO SMOOTH! After I made my own I kind of like it chunky better. I used a lot of the same ingredients that are listed on there but the flavor was different.

The Wegman's brand Black Bean Dip is very good, and it seems to always be available in that store, as are many things that are often hard to find in other stores. I will try the homemade version as well!

I made this over the weekend, and have to tell you it is wonderful!! I love this dip!! Thanks for posting another terrific recipe!

How close is it to Trader Joe's? The closest one to me is 35 minutes away so its a pain to get to.

my favorite black bean dip is simply 2 cans black beans (drained), 1 jar salsa, lime juice cilantro.

i can eat it straight from the bowl!!!

Roni,
I think you live near Wegman's. I spotted a Wegman's brand fat free bean dip in the chip aisle today. I didn't get it because I still have a stash from my last TJ's trip!

I, too, am a superfan of the black bean. YUM.
