Really Quick Spicy Bean Dip

Published: Nov 3, 2008 · Modified: Oct 16, 2020 by greenlitebitescom · This post may contain affiliate links · 18 Comments

Did I ever tell you guys how much I love bean dip. I mean really I LOVE it. I don't know if it's the texture or the spicy kick that gets me. All I do know... sit me down with a bag of tortilla chips and a jar of bean dip and I'm good for the night. Forget it, skip the chips, just give me the dip and a spoon. Now that I'm thinking of it, I don't even need the spoon, my finger works just fine. ;~)

Ok, maybe I exaggerate a little but you get my point. I'm a fan. The problem is it's so darn hard to find. At least in my area it is. And even If you are lucky enough to find it you have to be willing to drop 4-5 buck on a jar that tries to tell you 2 tablespoons is a serving. HA! My jar is normally gone in 2 sittings.

So because of all the reason listed above I set out to make my own. A few months ago I took my hand at some Black Bean dip, which is good but considering I don't have a food processor right now and my blender broke (probably because I used it to make bean dip all the time) I set off for a quicker, easier bean dip fix.

So I present to you the fastest, easiest bean dip idea ever. I'll tell you this, I have no plans on buying the jarred stuff again (except maybe Trader Joe's Black Bean Dip, that stuff is sweet nectar from the gods!). Really Quick Spicy Black Bean Dip

  • 1 can (16 oz) fat free refried beans
  • ½ cup of your favorite salsa
  • 1 tbsp lime juice, raw
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (to taste)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp dried cilantro
  • 2 tsp ground cumin

Put all ingredients in a bowl and mix well with a spoon. The dip will get nice and creamy.

Separate into 4 ½ cup servings and dip away! You can share if you want but I don't. The husband doesn't like bean dip (*yesssss*)

My favorite Bean dip dippers... baked tortilla chop, soy crisps and carrot sticks. Oh! and pepper strips.

Close to exactly what I was looking for - however, it HAS to be fresh cilantro!

Please consider switching the beans with black beans (I do a similar recipe and mix it in my blender or food processor) because the fiber in them is amazing! This blog is fantastic!

This was fantastic! I made it this weekend to use in a recipe that called for a purchased bean dip and couldn't believe how good it was. Thanks again for all of these recipes and all of your websites. You really inspire me.

    OH MY GOD!
I was a bean dip virgin ( I had never even heard of bean dip!) but I like refried beans so I thought, what the heck.
I didn't have all the ingredients, so I made mine with the salsa, Frank's Hot Sauce, celery seed, basil and garlic salt. This had got to be one of the BEST things I have ever had. I toasted a sandwich thin, cut it into pieces and bravely dipped away. I am in love! Not sure if this is supposed to be cold, so I toasted another sandwich thin, and warmed the dip up and OH MY GOD again it was awesome!
    Thanks Roni you rock!

Mmmmmmmmmm Sounds yummy! I was going to comment about the Trader Joe's fat free spicy bean dip, but you covered that. Love that stuff.

BTW - I made your beer chicken today. Can I just say this is the best chicken ever?! I've been wanting to make it for a while. Thanks for the recipe(s)!

I'll join your Bean Dip Club any day. Since I have a rockin' Magic Bullet (ask for one for Christmas! smoothie king this contraption!!), I use a can of drained black bean, some salsa, and fresh lime juice. Sometimes I'll add spices and cilantro, but for an easy pantry-staple snack, it's money in the bean dip bank. Too far? Sorry. 🙂

    Jan,

Just a different bean. I believe "regular" refried beans are pinto. Just be sure to get Fat Free as some brands put lard in them!

Oh yum! I have just switched to core and this looks to be all core to me. Is there a difference between refried beans and black refriend beans?

Sounds delicious — and protein-packed! I'm trying to get more protein in my diet again. Since I've been doing WW, I've noticed the diet is getting very carb-heavy.

I too love bean dip... I generally buy dried peruvian beans and cook them in the crock pot. Then I take a cup of beans, some salsa (I made my own with peppers, garlic and tomatoes)and puree in the blender. Its so so good. I've used this mixture as a dip, as filler for enchilladas, tostadas (I make them similar to the way you make your pizzas. Instead of sauce, I spread 1/4 cup of this mixture) and then top with lettuce, tomatoes and queso fresca (just a little bit... ).. so so good.
