Chinese 5 Spice Pork Loin with Beer and Apple in the Slow Cooker

I LOVE spices! I can’t imagine not having a stocked spice cabinet. I grew up with a mom who had a stocked spice cabinet and now I am a mom with a stocked spice cabinet. I can only hope I’m passing my love of spices to my boys as well.

There’s only one problem being a spice lover: They’re darn expensive!

For basics I choose the cheapo brands. Read the rest of this post »»

Chocolate Peanut Butter Yogurt

I’ve started a new series on Instragram called #DailyYogurt and this one just needed to be shared on the blog.

It was a filling, indulgent bowl of yumminess!

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

I would have never thought to combine a nut butter and yogurt until someone asked me if I did. Then I couldn’t get the thought out of my head. Read the rest of this post »»

Butternut Squash Pizzas

Sometimes I’ll see a food photo and say,

“MAN Why didn’t I think of that?!”

That’s what happened this weekend when I did a quick google search for butternut squash ideas.

I don’t really search recipes, I search photos. I’ll put the ingredients I want to work with in google and do an image search. Then I just keep scrolling and scrolling until something screams out at me. Read the rest of this post »»

Slow Roasted Chicken with Apples and Potatoes

There’s something you need to know about me: For YEARS I avoided whole chickens. Honestly, I avoided pretty much any meat with bones. If it wasn’t boneless chicken breasts or boneless pork chops or ground meat, I wasn’t buying or cooking it.

I’m not sure why. I guess I was scared of not cooking it correctly. I thought it was time consuming. I thought it was, well, too much work.

Well let me tell you.. Read the rest of this post »»

Italy was seriously the trip of a lifetime. I can’t even begin to tell you. Life changing for sure. If you are interested in seeing some photos check out TheUnworldlyTravelers.com. I posted from each major city we visited, Rome, Venice, Florence.

Anyway, I came home to 3 excited boys and an empty fridge. Read the rest of this post »»

Tuna Salad Cucumber Rolls

I’ll be preaching it to my dying day: Food that’s fun, takes just a little time to prep, and look pretty is always more satisfying. Always!I made this as a quick snack today and posted it on Instagram. (I try to keep an accurate food journal there although not everything makes it when my battery dies or I forget my phone.) Anyway, as soon as I posted it all these questions rolled in so I thought I’d share the post sooner rather than later. Read the rest of this post »»

Kale and Purple Cabbage Salad

I’m in that mode where I buy a bunch of fresh produce in the beginning of the week with no real plan on how I’m going to use it. I’ve learned over the course of the last 7 years –pretty much since I overhauled my diet– that if I buy it and keep it in plain site, I’ll figure out a way to eat it because I HATE throwing good food away.

Last week I picked up a head of purple cabbage because Read the rest of this post »»

Thai Inspired Cucumber Cashew Salad

This morning I checked my email to find one of Kalyn’s latest post, Wake-Up-Your-Mouth Thai Cucumber Salad and I immediately knew what I was making for lunch.

Of course I modified the idea using what I had on hand. The result couldn’t have been more satisfying! It was fresh, light, tasty, and REALLY filling. I guess eating a whole large cucumber will do that to you!
