Baby Food Adventures!
I'm not against jar bought baby food. I buy it along with making my own. My goal is to transition baby to simply eating what we're eating over the next few months, but right now we are having fun as he experiences new flavors and textures.

I’m trying hard, REAL HARD, to feed Little Bean what we eat at dinner. That’s it. End of story. Case closed.
I make chicken, broccoli and noodles. He gets chicken, broccoli and noodles. I make hamburgers, beans and corn. He gets hamburger, beans and corn.
It sounds so easy, right? Click here to continue reading I was *THIS* Close to Giving In >>>

The Kid Who Won’t Eat Fruit
Posted in: Baby Food Adventures | 10 Comments

That’s right FRUIT! It’s so frustrating! I mean, who doesn’t like fruit? it’s nature’s candy for Pete’s sake! It’s sweet. It’s soft (or at least can be.) It’s colorful. It’s amazing!
Little Bean is not impressed. Any fruit given to him besides banana gets poked at, squished or thrown. The kid will attempt to put anything in his mouth. I mean ANYTHING: screws, bottle caps, wooden spoons, paper, tissues, but put a strawberry in front of him and he looks at you like you have 3 heads. He then proceeds to poke and squish it around his tray before crying for something else.
It’s a STRAWBERRY!
Or in this case, a grape… Click here to continue reading The Kid Who Won’t Eat Fruit >>>

Waffles and Banana Yolk Mash
Posted in: Baby Food Adventures | 6 Comments

It’s true. Sometimes I feed my baby things I’d never eat and, well, actually find gross. This is one of them, but when you look at from a growing baby nutritional standpoint I’m totally justified. At least I think am.
According to NutritionData.com, 1 large egg yolk has just over 50 calories, 5 g of fat and 3 g of protein. It’s also a good source of Folate and Vitamin B12. Mix one in with a sweet banana and a dollop of yogurt and you’ve got yourself a nice little meal for baby. Will he eat it? Find out in our next Baby Food Adventure…. Egg Yolk Omelet –Sorta

Did you know that eggs contain, in varying amounts, almost every essential vitamin and mineral needed by humans as well as several other beneficial food components*? Now that’s what I’m looking for in a baby food!
I introduced Little Bean to the egg yolk a little while ago and it didn’t go quite as I expected, BUT I did get him to eat it. Total win in my book… Click here to continue reading Egg Yolk Omelet –Sorta >>>

Quinoa with Applesauce and Yogurt for Baby
Posted in: Baby Food Adventures | 5 Comments

I’m fairly new to quinoa. It definitely wasn’t something I grew up with. I didn’t even know it existed until a few years ago.
WHFood.com lists quinoa in their top World’s Healthiest Food list because it’s high in protein, magnesium, iron and it’s low in calories. One half cup cooked has about 110 calories, 4 g of fat and 5 g of fiber. Not bad for baby! Not bad at all!
But what about the texture? How would Little Bean react to something with so many chunks? Find out in our latest Baby Food Adventure…

Banana Blueberry “Pudding”
Posted in: Baby Food Adventures | 7 Comments

Did you know one-fifth of a medium avocado, or a one-ounce serving, has 50 calories and contributes nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, including 4% of the recommended Daily Value (DV) for vitamin E, 4% vitamin C, 8% folate, 8% fiber, 2% iron, 4% potassium, with 81 micrograms of lutein and 19 micrograms of beta-carotene (According to avocado.org).
Did you also know blended avocado makes a wonderful pudding consistency. Really, it does! Check out my Chocolate Pudding experiment. That picture doesn’t lie. When whipped and mixed with sweet ingredients the avocado creates an icing texture and it is amazing! Why not take advantage of this for baby? May I introduce Banana Blueberry “Pudding” made with avocado. You’ve got to try this one… Click here to continue reading Banana Blueberry “Pudding” >>>

Apple Pie Oatmeal for Baby
Posted in: Baby Food Adventures | 6 Comments

Baby food is normally BORING. Sweet potato. Carrots. Peas. Rice Cereal. Sure they make some combos like summer vegetables or apples with blueberries, but there’s no pizzazz to them.
I say add a little spice! Little Bean has already had cumin dusted pork chops, greek spiced salmon, and Mexican chicken. I also add a bit of spice to his morning bowl of oatmeal. Here’s how I make "Apple Pie Oatmeal" for Baby….
