How to Cook a Whole Chicken in the Slow Cooker

I did it! I finally got my act together and recorded a video!

5 minutes in the morning. 5 minutes after work. Dinner done!

You really can’t beat it.

Here’s what I did in case you don’t have time to watch my 4-minute video…

  • 1 onion, cut in half
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, cut in half if needed
  • 1 whole chicken, ~5 lbs
  • Salt and seasonings of your choice (I used a garlic, thyme, cumin and sage mixture)

Place the onion and potatoes on the bottom of the slow cooker. Lay the whole chicken on top, spinkle with spices, cover and cook on low for 8 hours.

That’s it! Go to work, come home and eat!

    YUM! It looks really great, Roni. I absolutely love your idea of opening the chicken in the stockpot you will use to make stock! Super smart.

    I've cooked a whole chicken in a slow cooker several times, and it's so easy! It's always so moist + tasty, which is a HUGE added bonus! I've never tried adding the potatoes, but I'll make that note for next time -- I often add carrots + celery as well. My bonus tip: after having dinner on day 1, add everything back into the pot (veggies, carcass, leftover meat, etc.) and fill with water. Run it on day 2 (again, low for 8 hours) and you'll have amazing homemade stock! It also makes any leftover meat SUPER easy to pick off the bone -- I use the rest of the meat for tacos, BBQ, quesadillas, etc. and I make homemade chicken noodle soup with the stock + the veggies.

      Nope! No liquid.
