I may have gone off the deep end with these green smoothie things. I can't stress how long it took me to put spinach in my smoothies. I just didn't believe it would be good. Then 2 years ago I made my first one and was hooked! Now I have a page devoted to them --click here to see all my green smoothie ideas.
This particular version is not for the faint of heart. It's as green as green can be!
The taste can only be described as fresh. The combination of watermelon and spinach screams healthy and creates a pleasant, light flavor. The addition of avocado gives it a smooth texture and adds some "meat" to an otherwise too-light breakfast.
I've made it 2 days in a row now and both times I'm I've been shocked how much I liked it. I mean there's really nothing to it!
Here's what I did...
Ingredients
- 200g fresh watermelon
- 2 cups (85g) raw spinach
- 1 oz (28g) avocado
- 10 ice cubes
Instructions
Puree the watermelon first to create the liquid base.
Add the spinach and avocado.
Mine barely fit. I had to squish it in.
Once you're ready to blend, if you are using an upside-down processor, make sure to give the cup a few shakes so the liquid is near the blades.
Blend until smooth.
Add in the ice cubes and blend again.
Pour into a glass and enjoy!
I like to pair it with a hard boiled egg. It makes a great breakfast combo!

I rotate between spinach and baby kale.
Decalo Weight Loss
Seems like an unlikely combo but I'll give it a try.

Okay, that's it... I'm finally going to try one of these! Do you think an immersion blender would work? 🙂

I think you can make it work. There's not a lot of liquid though. It all comes from the watermelon and spinach

I am always a little confused on why you use g for measurements instead of cups or T. I don't have a scale so a little help in this area would be beneficial to me.
roni
Because grams are more accurate and since I'm supply nutritional information I want to be as accurate as possible. Plus "a cup" of something like watermelon can vary greatly on how it's cut (large or small chunks) if you bake or cook g is the way to go in my opinion. That being said I normally try to post cup equivalents for most things. I forgot on the water melon it's about 1 1/3 cups.
Michele
That looks yummy!! 200g watermelon....is that about 1 cup?
roni
It's a little over a cup, more like 1 and 1/3. I think there's 150g in a cup.

I've never even thought of using watermelon in green smoothies. Going to use your recipe in a few days time, and report back 😉
