What Came Home?
Those who have been reading for some time may remember "The Kid Who Won’t Eat Fruit" post. Little Bean has never been a fruit fan. Ever. He's even given up banana! I still offer them about once a week but he always refuses. However, he's since picked up an apple habit, which was one fruit he used to avoid like the plaque.
Like I said, kids are FICKLE.
He has stayed consistent on his hatred of strawberries, which still blows my mind. He'll now bite into one but immediately makes a face and feeds it to me. It's cute. I hope taking him strawberry picking this summer will help change his mind. The fact he loves freeze-dried strawberries gives me hope!
I found them at Target and he'll happily eat them and the freeze-dried mango as a snack all the time. I think this supports my "texture" theory. 🙂

Thank you for this idea!!! Audrey has definite texture issues. I tried freeze dried strawberries today and she ate them right up. This is a huge accomplishment. Getting her to eat whole foods has been such a challenge. She only seems to like crunchy things (crackers, toast, waffles) and cheese. She still loves baby food purees in pouches, but we need to move past that. Mealtime is so stressful.

smart way of feeding children with all essential nutrients of fruits…

Hi Roni,
My daughter also gave up banana which was her favorite fruit. I wonder what happened with her appetite. Anyway, this is a great idea. I'm experimenting a lot right now just to make her eat nutritious food. Thanks a lot! 😀

Oh, it could well be a texture thing - I cannot stomach bananas for that reason. They feel like mush in my mouth. The fresh strawberries could feel that way to Little Bean.

Stay the course..... Win some, lose some, overcome others. It's so much more about not giving up while their little palates are developing and changing. :0)

I completely agree with your texture theory. My kids are EXACTLY the same 🙂

Hi Roni!
Trader Joe's has a nice selection of freeze-dried fruits.

I've never been a big fruit eater either. I'm very much texture based. I also can't smell anything. Never have been able to. Foods (esp. some lower sugar fruits) that appeal to others never have to me (strawberries are a prime example). They taste bitter to me but people who can smell interpret smell as taste and thus enhance the flavor. I'm not saying he can't smell, but sometimes texture trumps smell/taste a lot.

My four year old won't eat bananas. Like - WON'T eat them. He doesn't want to touch them, and occasionally he gets grossed out watching his two-year old sister eat one (although she is, admittedly, often gross when eating).
Who won't eat bananas? sigh....
ps - he also won't eat banana 'ice cream'... even with hershey's special dark!
SIGH!
