As the one who got you started on this SO long ago - I get a kick everytime you refer to it! I love the modifications you made! I will definately try this combo! I can't believe you haven't bought ice cream since then! That is awesome! Keep up the creative crazy that we love so much! :O)

    May 23, 2012

I've been making banana soft serve for ages in my little food processor/chopper. My daughter got me a Yonanas for Mother's Day and I love it! I make sure I always have bananas in the freezer.

    May 23, 2012

:) Thanks Roni! I made some last night with my magic bullet and it was awesome! I made enough for two small bowls and drizzled it with chocolate syrup....yummy! I put one serving in the freezer and told my husband that I had left a sweet treat for him in the freezer whenever he was ready. He came and sat beside me and ate it all up and then looked at me and said....what was in that? When I told him he said "Really" the look on his face was "Really" priceless:) I found it very satisfying and filling...a keeper for sure!

    May 23, 2012

I think I'll try this with peaches and greek yogurt. I'm doing Medi-weightloss and the bananas are a little high on the sugar scale for that. Thanks for the inspiration!!

    May 23, 2012

i have the Yonanas machine too. I love it. I use bananas mango bananas and pineapple (great) next I will try watermellon. Oh I have the bullet too. I think I will try that when I am going to make it just for me. Have a great day

    May 23, 2012

Thanks Roni, I will be off to the store to find some very ripe bananas! I have made this in my food processor before but found it a pain to clean, the Bullet would be SO much easier. I vote for you to be the Bullet spokeswoman. Have you ever seen the super-cheesy infomercials for it, like when the lady is in the kitchen in her housedress smoking a cigarette? You need to replace her. Although I can imagine the Bullet people having an aneurysm when they watch you shake their product all around :)

ok you are adorable with all the shaking and banging! Are you done with the green shirts you wear in the videos?

    May 23, 2012

yeah.. I kind of gave them up after I wasn't able to maintain a video a week. Plus, I wasn't sure how many people actually noticed or cared. Although, I thought it was cute. :)

    May 23, 2012

You're hilarious! I discovered frozen bananas a few months ago and I am HOOKED! I also love them with blueberries, blackberries, cherries, etc.... The list goes on. SO yummy. Thanks for your shaking :)

    May 23, 2012

Just wanted to let you know you inspired me. Didn't have the peaches on hand so this is what I did... I decided to get 6 ounces of greek yogurt, 1 cup frozen sliced strawberries, and 2 tablespoons sugar free chocolate syrup. I blended it all in the Ninja and froze it for 35 minutes. It was soft, creamy and chocolaty. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Sounds delicious. Have you tried banana and strawberries that might be a good combination. :)

    May 24, 2012

    Yup! Strawberries work great!

    May 24, 2012

I had no idea I could do this in my bullet! Now I don't have to clean the giant food processor. Yay!!!

    May 28, 2012

I just tried your banana soft serve and the hubby loved it. I have been wanting to get him to eat less dairy and ice cream is his down fall. This fits the bill. Thanks so much.

:) I must go buy a bullet, this sounds AWESOME!

I *love* frozen banana soft serve! I make it in my Vitamix. I generally use a frozen banana and a container of nonfat Greek yogurt, plus whatever other mix-ins I want to add. The yogurt gives me some protein and really boosts the creaminess, too. I'm definitely doing to have to try and blueberry & dark cocoa combination! I have both of those ingredients on hand already, so that may be my "treat" tomorrow night. :)

    May 30, 2012

Just did this in the bullet - omg! it was just fantastic! i shook that baby like you did in the video and it was amazing... thanks!

    June 2, 2012

Mmm mmm I made my version of the dessert and I am hooked!! I used one frozen banana, about 1/2 teaspoon of almond butter, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, a had full of mixed frozen berries and added water. I started blending it but it was very thick so I had to add a little more water, then blend again. Thanks for the idea!!

    June 3, 2012

Just made this with banana, frozen raspberries, almond milk and regular cocoa powder bc thats what I had in the house...DELICIOUS!

Dear Roni, because of this post i bought me a little blender and i just love it! You wouldn´t believe how many shakes and smoothies i already made with it, it is kind of absurd.. :-) Now i just tried this recipy and must say i am seriously in love with it. sooo good! Thanks so very, very much for showing us this, it made my life on WW so much easier because now i eat healthy, filling treats instead of chocolate or crisps.. Claudia

    June 8, 2012

I eat banana soft serve all the time...I haven't bought ice cream since I discovered it either! I usually just put in the banana and cocoa powder, but never thought to throw in a little milk or water with it. I make mine in a Bullet as well and find it very irritating how often the blades catch!

    June 10, 2012

I can't believe I haven't made this yet, I have a vitamix so been hearing about this for a long time. Dessert tonight!!! Thanks!

    June 27, 2012

Do you HAVE to use bananas? Can you just use berries?

    June 28, 2012

You could but the bananas make it "creamy"

    July 2, 2012

Ok I think I did a FAIL! Mine came out a tad runny. I followed instruction by instruction.. not sure WHY it was runny :( my berries were NOT frozen.. the banana was totally frozen

    July 2, 2012

Less liquid especially if the berries are NOT frozen. That's the only reason it would be running. Sorry it didn't work for you. :(

    July 2, 2012

Popped it in the freezer lets see if that works.

    July 2, 2012

freezer worked, i just have to still it a tad!

    July 7, 2012

I just tried this and I have to say that I think this recipe is going to change my life! As an ice cream junkie, I found it incredibly satisfying and rich. It's barely 1 WW point! I just discovered your blogs. They are fantastic. Thank you for sharing!

Banana's and peaches is excellent! Tried it the other day and not only did I eat it, but my extremely picky eater kids ate it too. Matter of fact they requested for me to make it for them a couple of days later! Thanks for the idea. :) I will never buy ice cream for myself again!!!!

    July 22, 2012

this is awesome! I don't have a magic bullet, so i used a food processor. To one frozen banana and a handful of blueberries, I added 2 tbsp of PB2 plus 2 tbsp cocoa, and just 1 tbsp water--fantastic! Thanks!

    September 18, 2012

I loved it! My son is a type 1 diabetic and I am always looking for healthy ways to satisfy his craving for sweets, he was so happy with this! I am making it for his birthday party, thank you. I make one with almond/coconut milk peanut butter and cocoa powder, delicious!

Hi, Roni! Do you have a "vanilla" recipe? The chocolate/blueberry looks DELICIOUS (and I will be trying it myself as soon as I get to the store for some cocoa!), but my hubby only eats vanilla ice cream. Suggestions? THANKS!!!

    September 24, 2012

Hi Katie - I'd just use bananas, a splash of milk (vanilla almond would be awesome!) and a splash of vanilla extract! That would be yummy!!

You are hilarious! Loved your video... I was contemplating purchasing a Yonanas, because my friend said you can do the same thing with a blender... Well, then I got online and discovered you could use the Bullet! Before I watched your video, I experimented with a recipe online. It worked pretty well. What I loved about your video was knowing the correct amount of fluid, and the cocoa powder I can't wait to try. Thanks so much!

    June 4, 2013

I LOVE making this. I don't have a magic bullet so I use my immersion blender and elbow grease. ;-) I haven't added the blueberries (yet) but I love the hershey's special dark. And if I'm in the mood - a swirl of natural peanut butter at the end is a nice addition. Tonight's batch was thicker (just bananas softened for a few minutes and cocoa - no liquid) so I ate it on a cone with some chia seeds sprinkled on. Totally delicious. Who needs jimmies?* ('sprinkles to most of you) YUM!

Hi Roni! You are adorable and I LOVE your blog. I have been using your recipes for years. I'm going to try this tonight with banana, cocoa powder and a couple tablespoons of Better than Peanut Butter (only 45 calories). I am a Reese addict and would love to find a satisfying replacement!

    January 26, 2014

Thanks so much for this simple recipe! Now I don't need to buy ice cream any more. :) I used: - 1 frozen banana - 4 or 5 frozen strawberries - a few tablespoons of slivered almonds - 2 tablespoons of unrefined, organic coconut oil - a few ounces of water, added slowly as needed I used my blender's small cup as suggested. It was delicious. Next time I'll try to make enough to put in a waffle bowl. :)

    April 1, 2014

I have two different blades for my Bullet, which one do I use for the soft icecream? Thank you

      April 1, 2014

I used the one for liquids that had the blades that poke up. Hope that helps! -Roni

    May 5, 2014

I just got a magic bullet this summer after I got back from school. I've been using it regularly for a week now but I don't quite have the finesse you do with the bullet but I'm really glad I'm not the only one trying to violently shake all the contents to the bottom! Smoothies are pretty simple but to make ice cream, I'm lost. How long do you keep the motor on when you make it?

      May 6, 2014

Hi Dave! I'm not sure about time, a few minutes maybe? I think the secret is learning how little liquid you can get way with and having it still blend. I'd start adding more liquid than you need to use and then experimenting until you find the right amount that let's' the blades spin while you are whipping the contents towards the blades.

    May 16, 2014

I will definately have to try this, I enjoyed the video, and you are super cute!

    July 6, 2014

OMG this is soo perfectly chocolatey and not too sweet.. how have I lived all my life without this... I'm officially Obsessed!!! Thank you!!!! :) (Love your blog by the way!)

    July 26, 2014

Toni, This is so cool! I'm making it tonight. If I come up with some variations I'll post them. You are so darn cute too, love the energy!

      July 26, 2014

Whoops, autocorrect on my Kindle got your name wrong. I see it is really Roni.

    August 14, 2014

Hello! My hunt for an ice cream alternative led me to your videos. I love this particular version of the ones I've found online, and I'm wondering if you think this will work with a small, average blender. I'm an unemployed college kid who recently got a bit of spending money and I'm hesitant to blow it all on a Magic Bullet, especially if I can get the same result from a $20 personal blender. What do you think?

      Katie again

      August 14, 2014

I just saw your link to where you used a food processor (sorry). Do you think a food processor would be a better investment than a small blender? I'm comparing these two, in terms of making banana soft serve recipes but also for being versatile around the kitchen. I don't have a lot of experience with kitchen appliances beyond the coffee maker and toaster, haha. Food Processor food processor vs Personal Blender Thanks for reading this.

      August 18, 2014

Hi Katie! I'd probably go with that small personal blender for $14. Just make sure you have some liquid in there and use my technique that I use with the bullet, pick it up and get the banana on the blades so it doesn't seize on you. Good luck!

    September 23, 2014

Hi, I just tried this with my brand new magic bullet, it was YUM! It seems to take a while to breakdown thou, I didn't smash around my bullet like you did haha, well it is only a new toy at the moment, however I did stop and start and move the ingredients in the container. I am half guessing the reason you use over ripe bananas is that it breaks down easier? I was so eager to try this so I didn't wait to use an over ripe banana. It still tastes like banana thou so I wont be able to fool hubbie who is so painfully picky but who cares this indulgence is JUST FOR ME! Going to try it next with just bananas and maybe add a little vanilla essence. Actually going to try it with lots of combinations, thank you so very much for this, now I have something to satisfy the sweet tooth without all the FAT and extra sugars. Oh P.S. you don't need makeup, your cute enough as it is.

Thank you so much for this great video I will be trying this tonight. Which of the blades did you use, please?

      May 5, 2015

The liquid one. Hope you like it!

    July 31, 2015

I love how you're just a real person talking about something you do. This video is awesome. I tried it with a little bit of honey and a couple of baby carrots. It tasted amazing and it was orange!!!
