Produce Pick: Fennel aka Anise
Posted in: Produce Picks, Video Posts | 12 Comments
We’re Baaaaack! So sorry for lack of updates. If you follow my weight loss blog you may have known I was on vacation. We took little guy to Disney for his 5th birthday. It’s was loads of fun but I’m happy to be back in my kitchen.
To help celebrate our return Ryan and I hit the grocery store and stocked up on loads of produce for the week. One of our selections was some fresh fennel. Watch this short(er) video to see his reaction. It’s pretty funny.
Oh! and I got a hair cut. ;)
Update: Click here to see the fennel and spinach soup I made with that bulb!

You look great Roni! :o)
i agree. your hair is awesome!
I think it’s hilarious that he said it was disgusting but still kept chomping away. Couldn’t have been THAT gross! My 9-year-old will nearly cry trying to avoid bites of food that he has deemed disgusting! :) love the hair!
I agree with Ryan…disgusting, disgusting, disgusting. Hahaha. Actually, we tried fennel just a couple months ago and didn’t like the anise flavor of it, but we all thought it was a super cool looking vegetable. Now if it would only taste like RED licorice, then maybe I’d be in. LOL
p.s. Your hair looks super cute!
It’s really yummy w/ tomatoes, olives, evoo, s/p and a hint of feta. tasty.
He was a good sport about that!
This is how we recently ate fennel. We enjoyed it.

In fact I need to put it back on the menu here soon.
The link didn’t work. :(
Hmmm, strange that it isn’t working for you as I can click on it and get to the recipe. If you can’t get it, go to myrecipes.com and search for Fresh Mediterranean Salad.
Your son reminds me so much of my son. We have never tried fennel before. A couple of months ago we signed up for a weekly CSA box from our local farm. It’s been a bunch of experimenting. I’m losing at figuring out how to cook the new and odd veggies, so I’m going to be coming back here for ideas. Thanks darling!
I have subscribed for a long time and never leave comments but I had to just tell you–I LOVE YOUR HAIR! That short cut is so flattering on you and I love the highlights and the dangling earrings with it.
My grandmom serves fennel after every holiday meal. She’s claimed for years that it helps you to digest after a really big meal. I don’t know if it’s a mind game or what, but it always works!
Love the new hair!
Grandma may have been right… http://www.kcweb.com/herb/fennel.htm ;)
