As a blogger people like to send me products for review. Generally I stay away from them here on GreenLiteBites unless they are something I can use in a recipe (like spice mixes.) So when the pancake mixes started rolling in I was unsure how to review them. Especially considering I make my own pancakes and have some pretty strong opinions on pre-made mixes, especially ones that aren't whole grain.
As I stared at the the 3 boxes I thought... Pancake Off! Why not make all three, with mine mixed in and give each one a try. My initial idea involved some older kids to help but plans fell through. So you are stuck with just the toddler and I, as usual. 🙂 That being said the opinions on taste are a bit skewed as the the toddler decided which was his favorite BEFORE he even tried them! Ahhhhh toddlers! 🙂
My favorite in order...
- My 100% Whole Grain Pancakes
- ok ok so I might be biased but I'm telling ya.. it held up against the mixes and I liked my addition of cinnamon and nutmeg for a more flavorful pancake
- Quaker Oatmeal Pancake Mix
- A close second. I really like them. They rose up great and had a nice texture. Plus the first 2 ingredients are oat flour, whole wheat flour, just like mine. 🙂
- Bisquick Heart Smart® Pancake and Baking Mix
- Tasted good, very traditional but too "white" for me.
- Fiber One Complete Pancake Mix
- Not bad but thin and, again, too "white" for me.

That was one of the funniest/cutest Ryan videos ever. I loved his expression after he tried YOUR pancake recipe. And like Christy, I thought he said $hit beast, too. LOL I made flax pancakes this morning and was thinking of you and wondering if you tried them. They are weird, but good.

Thanks for the info. I made your pancakes a couple weeks ago and LOVED them. I took 2 to work each day for a week. They are great. I might give the quaker pancakes a try...but I doubt it. I don't make pancakes enough to really keep a mix around.
Oh...and I thought Ryan said $hit beast instead of 'ferocious beast'...I about fell over laughing when I realized he did not say a bad word 🙂

How Funny! I was at Target tonight and they had the quaker on sale and I thought I would give them a try for a quick, weekday option. They also have a waffle option and we are big on the waffles!
Thanks for sharing, it is good to know I bought the second best!

I tried your whole wheat pancake mix the other morning and LOVED it. I sat down and watched the previous video of you making your homemade pancakes with Ryan and then went in and tried it myself. Great!
I would like a mix that I can make up in a pinch, though, for work mornings. So maybe I'll try the Quaker pancakes.
I had a thought, though. I'll bet I could mix up the dry ingredients from your recipe in advance so the only thing I'd have to mix up on a work morning would be the wet ingredients. Not sure how that'd work with the oats a milk having to sit for a while, but I'll get it worked out.
Keep the videos of Ryan coming.
