Quick French Toast… Video Post

Posted in: Breakfast Ideas, Food Photos, Toddler Approved, Video Posts | 14 Comments

…and I mean quick! Seriously, the video is 15 minutes. It took me 15 minutes to make a warm, healthy home cooked breakfast for the toddler before school. That 15 minutes included a bit of discipline, a pumpkin show off, a mini-commercial, the toddler cracking my eggs and scooping my spices. It was fun, fast, healthy, and everything I want family time to be (although, I do have to curb the toddler’s self expression to talk to you! LOL)

I don’t know about you but I can wake up 15 minutes early every day if this is what I have to look forward to! :~)

Oh! and YIKES! I totally forgot my intro screen! LOL not a big deal, you probably wouldn’t have even noticed.

Here’s what I did but remember, take it and run! Quick French Toast

  • 1 egg
  • splash of your favorite milk (about an ounce)
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 slices of your favorite whole grain bread
  • non-stick cooking spray

Heat a non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat.

whisk the egg, milk and spices in a flat bottom bowl or dish.

Spray the skillet with non-stick spray.

Dip the bread quickly in the egg (both sides) and place on the skillet.

Flip after 2-3 minutes when the toast become a nice golden brown.

Serve with a bit of syrup!

Note: the Nutritional Information may vary based on the bread you use. And I take back what i said in the video. I ate my second with just a bit of maple syrup and oh.. MY! YUM! (Notice it in the picture)

I love french toast but I always think it *seems* like too much work in the morning. I’ll have to remember your video next time – you had a toddler and still got it done in less than 15 min!

Hey Roni…i watch but rarely post. this looks like a good take on an old fave! I always smother mine in butter and syrup…but you’re right…it really isn’t necessary. THe cinnamon and nutmeg sound great…and adding a vanilla flavor to the egg mixture like Tricia said is a fab idea too…we are gonna try this the next time we do french toast! Thanks for letting us sit in on your morning w/ the toddler!!

    Hi Roni,

Thank you for posting the video. It was a good one.

I am looking forward to seeing what you do with pumpkin seeds.

Have you ever noticed that if your egg is really fresh, most of it sticks to the first slice of bread, and it gets to thick protein-y strings of white? What do you do about that?

  10. roni on February 28, 2009 8:55 pm

Laura – There’s a name for that… can’t think of it right now. You need to beat the heck out of it fish that membrane out before dipping.

But yea… I get it sometimes too.

…can I use a bit of greek yogurt instead if milk?

  14. roni on June 22, 2010 12:29 pm

you could skip it all together. I only add it to stretch the egg a bit. If you want to use yogurt then just thin it with some water.

    Hope that helps!
