Quick Chocolate Kettle Corn

2 WWPP Posted by 9 years ago 31 Comments

The long awaited, hope it’s not a disappointment, kettle corn. No toddler in this one, I just needed a break!

However, he likes it, of course! The husband hasn’t tried it yet, yeah, I know, don’t ask.

  • 1 microwave bag of 94% fat free popcorn popped
  • ¼ square of Unsweetened baking chocolate (3.5g)
  • 1 tbsp honey (21g)

Chocolate Kettle COrn

Pop the popcorn in the microwave according the instructions.

In a large (like a stock pot) pot melt the honey and chocolate over a very low heat. Stirring frequently to combine.

Slowly add the popcorn to the pot and stir to coat until all popcorn is added.

Pour in bowl and ENJOY!

As for nutritional information, I’ll split the whole batch into 4 servings but I can’t lie, I routinely eat the whole bag. Just so you know the chocolate and honey only add about 80 calories and 2 g of fat.

P.S. Moved to a new video hosting service. What do you guys think? The next one won’t be so grainy, I recorded this with the old one is mind.

Genius! 94%FF popcorn is a great staple for high-volume/low-density happy times, and you made it even better! PS good use of honey. I, too, am trying to rid the artifical stuff from my life (although here it's not really relevant, 'cause it doesn't brown like the natural sweeteners). Can't wait to try the recipe! :)

Looks really good! And unsweetened chocolate isn't a temptation to have in the house, so I'm looking forward to trying this.

wait YOU NEEDED A BREAK?! :) girlfriend, youve had one coming for a longtime! love the kettlecorn idea. Miz.

    July 27, 2008

Have you considered using agave nectar? Hmmm...may have to experiment myself later today!

    July 27, 2008

I put splenda and cinnamon on my 94%FF popcorn, and let me tell ya...its AMAZING! Something to definitely consider!

I like the angle of the camera. I missed the toddler, but I thought it was a nice change.

Roni, LOVE this...Can't WAIT to try it! I do have one question. In the directions of the says "In a large (like a stock pot) pot melt the honey and BUTTER over a very low heat. Stirring frequently to combine". Did you mean Honey and chocolate OR is there butter that I missed?

    July 28, 2008

Sounds so good! I'll have to try that instead of the rice crispie bun phase I'm having at the min. A lot less chocolate used for a start ! :)

"In a large (like a stock pot) pot melt the honey and butter over a very low heat. Stirring frequently to combine." Since your ingred. didn't include butter did you mean chocolate? I love your websites and check them everyday. You are an inspiration. Thank you and keep up the awesome work!

Thank you for the recipe! Yay, it looks yummy! I was wondering though . . . did you know that they make 94% fat free kettle corn? I know that Orville Redinbacher makes it but I don't know about the other brands. . . I think I will use the 94% FF kettle corn to make this recipe! Thanks again! PS I missed your toddler, but I bet it was SOOOO nice to have a break! Melissa

Do you think that using the cocoa powder would make it sticky enough to make small popcorn balls? This looks awesome:) Thanks

    July 30, 2008

I made this last night and finished off the whole bag, and I don't even like popcorn!! Luckily I had the points for it. Thanks for sharing this Roni.

    July 30, 2008

Thanks guys! As for the butter, yes typo. AS for the popcorn balls, YES! I do! It did stick together in clumps! I was actually thinking of going that way in the beginning.

So I was skeptical of the 1/4 square of chocolate for the whole bag of popcorn...but it really was more than enough! Loved it! Thanks Roni!

Made it - VERY YUMMY! For the air-pop people, just wanted to confirm - the 94% FF popcorn bag states it has 3 T per serving; therefore, the whole bag would be 6 T total. That means if you want to try to use airpopped corn, you would probably want to use a little less, like 5T. Correct?

I am sitting here typing with chocolate fingers. Super yummy. Never would have thought of chocolate popcorn but I am glad you did. I also am terrible and once inawhile when I want super sweet do 1/2 square of chocolate and 1 1/2 T. Honey. Just a little stronger. Yummy again. Ali

I am going to make this with my nieces next week for our girls movie night. They are 13, 11, and 10. Looks like it's going to be a great one!

Was I the only person to find it sticky? I like my popcorn sweet and crunchy (probably why I hit 190) but this stuck solidly in the bowl, even upside down. Taste was good but I had to pry each piece from the mass and from my fingers.

Kim - Even using the solid chocolate?? That's how it is with the cocoa powder. I mean, it's a little sticky but far from a mass, there's just not enough chocolate. Sorry it didn't come out for you. Thanks for trying it!

you love me because I ended up spritzing my corn with water and tossing in choc protein powder....

    August 12, 2008

I was in need of a chocolate fix so I made this tonight - yum! I will absolutely make it again. Thanks Roni! PS - My husband tried it and pronounced it to be "too bitter". He doesn't understand chocolate ;)

    September 13, 2008

Has anyone else tried "Wheylow" as a natural low-cal sweetener? I love it, my husband says he can't taste the difference even when dipping a finger in and tasting it! Please spread the word so this great product can get out into the world! Thanks Roni and everyone for the great ideas, as always.

I LOVE this popcorn!!! I have been eating it since you posted the recipe. Today I was out of popcorn but needed (wanted)something sweet and I subed mixed nuts instead of popcorn: GREAT! You really have to try this. I can't wait to serve them at my Christmas party:)

Just made this yesterday - excellent! I have been looking for snacks to take on long car trips and this will definitely be top on the list.

    April 1, 2009

This looks fantastic!!! I've been using the spray butter and some cajun spice in my cupboard...I like hot stuff :) but I do like sweet popcorn so I may give this a try very soon!!! Thanks Roni!!!

Just made this and it's DELISH! I am in Spain visiting friends and they wanted me to make an "American dessert," but they lack basic ingredients to do so. I had NO idea what to make, so I looked at your desserts. It just so happened that we had all the ingredients in the house (chocolate, honey, popcorn). I added a tiny bit of margarine+salt since the microwave popcorn we had on hand was plain. It's sitting on some paper towel now. I am hoping that it dries crunchy, but maybe it'll just become mushy? If it becomes mushy, I'll just make another batch for dinner (this one was an overexcited test round). Thanks!!!!

Hi Roni! I know you've got your hand full and I hope you're loving every minute of it :) Question about the baking chocolate squares. I'm trying to be really good about weighing anf measuring everything. You said ¼ square of Unsweetened baking chocolate (3.5g). My squares are 28 grams each (serving size is equal to 1/2 square, 14g), so a quarter would be 7g. I thought they were regular size though. Are you sure about the 3.5g? I don't want to use more chocolate (or points) than necessary! Thanks!

    March 27, 2011

Hi Ann, I'm not sure what the original serving size is of the squares I use but I do know I used a total of 3.5g.. whatever it would be. It was really a little amount, you can see it in the video. Hope that helps!

    March 27, 2011

Thanks so much Roni! I had to saw my chocolate to get the 3.5 g but it was enough and worked perfectly.

you should investigate micro-wave popcorn. It should be taken off the market as it causes cancer
