Those that read my weight loss blog may already know this is an older idea. I just never photographed it before.

I really need to thank the toddler for introducing me to oatmeal. Honestly, I never ate it until he came around. Then I realized how great warm breakfast could be!

I “cheat” in this recipe using one of those flavored oatmeal packets. I just haven’t been able to duplicate the same apple pie experience with out it. Apple Pie OatmealThen again, I really haven’t tried. Sometimes quick and simple is just what you need in the morning, especially with a toddler or two on your hands.

  • 1 package of light cinnamon flavored oatmeal like Quaker Oatmeal Weight Control Cinnamon
  • Dash of extra cinnamon to taste
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce or a single serve container

Pour the package contents in a coffee mug with a dash of extra cinnamon and add about 1/2 cup of boiling water. Stir and let sit a minute.

Stir in the applesauce and sprinkle with a bit more cinnamon.

I swear it taste like I smooshed up an apple pie!

I am on your subscription and when I opened my email today I was already contemplating what to have for breakfast. It sounded so good especially since it was 20 degrees this morning. I absolutely loved this and it will be a regular. Even more important I got a thumbs up from hubby and my 2yr son.

Is there a way to make this Core?

  5. roni on December 29, 2007 2:23 pm

Kate – what would make it CORE? Using plain oatmeal, applesauce, cinnamon and splenda, maybe?

This was great – in fact, it was so much like smooshed apple pie that I thought it was a bit rich for breakfast. So I made it again – but served it piping hot with a dollop of cool whip light as a great 2 serving DESSERT!! Sooo yummy!

This is the first recipe I’ve tried from this site and it’s great! I also tried it using a 50 calorie (no sugar added) blueberry flavored applesauce and it was even better.
