Whole Grain Couscous

Posted in: Food Finds | 8 Comments

Do you know what Couscous is? Wait, let’s back up, do you know how to pronounce Koos-Koos? Well I’ll be honest, I was a Couscous virgin until tonight. I heard great things, versatile, light, fluffy, easy, you name it, it was said about couscous. So when I came across a whole grain couscous you know I HAD to try it. And all those things people said about it are SO true. The only way I can describe the small pasta is fun!

Using equal parts liquid to Couscous it literally takes 5 minutes to prepare. Bring the liquid (and I say liquid because you can use anything, water, broth, juice, stock, whatever!) to a boil, remove from heat, add the couscous and cover. That’s it! I can see it as a side dish, in soups, stews are even the main course, like my leftover turkey Couscous and Stuffed Peppers.

So I’m late to the couscous party but I know some of you have been using it for some time. What is your favorite way to prepare couscous?

I really love couscous as well. I like to prepare mine with chicken broth and once done, add in a little onion, mushroom, and garlic cooked in EVOO. Delish!

I love couscous!!! I live in a small rural town that we moved to a year and a half ago, and most people here have never even heard of it! Most of the things I like to eat they have never even heard of. I am going to be known as an oddity around here! I like my couscous with parmesan cheese, olive oil, and garlic. Thanks for the tip about using it in stuffed peppers!!

Roni, I love your blog and have been checking every day now, you’ve inspired me to go back to WW.

Can you tell me where to find the whole wheat couscous? I have the regular version all the time and love it but I cant find the WW version. Who makes it??

Rose – the only brand I’ve seen in my store is riceSelect. But my local grocery stopped carrying it. Now I buy it online from here…

You get a 4 pack and it’s a great pantry item!
