Allison,

I haven't tried a persimmons, but DEFINITELY try pomegranates. I used to just decorate with them, but finally tried them in a fruit salad when I was at a friend's place. They are AMAZING, sweet and yummy. Because they are these little juicy seeds inside that you eat, they are kind of like a 'fiddle food'. You know, one that can keep your hands busy while watching television. My kids LOVE pomegranetes!

I looked at them the other day too!! But I put them back. I'll tell you what. This weekend I will pick some up and do a produce pick. Maybe we can get others to share their experiences with them!

I was looking at pomegranates in the market yesterday and realized I was too afraid to buy them, but when I see them in pictures I think they look good. Have you tried them before, or has anyone else on here tried them? I was trying to be gutsy and look at new produce and it didn't work out so well :)

I like the firm ones just sliced like that. If you slice it horizontally, you get a nice little star shape in the middle. My kids and I would eat them all the time when we lived in Cali and our neighbor would load us up with them. We just ate them plain like melon or apple slices.

I don't like the Japanese ones that are mushy. Those are the ones that cookies, breads and jams are made from...not the firm ones like you had. They are very different in texture, but not a lot of difference in flavor.

I have had them before and just eat them as a fruit like you did. We haven't cooked them before. Just let them get pretty ripe. I can see, too, why your toddler would not have liked it.

I'd never had persimmon until I saw it on this website. I tried out this easy and tasty recipe and I was sold: Check out: http://whatsforlunchhoney.blogspot.com/2007/11/friends-feasts-persimmon-honey-nut.html

Elise over at Simply Recipes also has some good recipes for persimmons.

Love the new layout btw!
